Firmware 2.60 for PSP released
Homebrewers beware; the newest 2.60 firmware update for PSP is now available for download via the console's Network Update feature. From what we can tell, the most useful feature upgrades for this 18MB update are the ability to play WMA files and an RSS channel. Disappointingly, WMA digital rights management is not supported, so any chance of being able to download and use music from subscription-based services like Napster or Yahoo pretty much goes out the window. The RSS channel, which is really just a corporate-y moniker for Internet radio, gets our vote for most practical addition. Those who missed out on PSPRadio because they moved up from firmware 1.5 should be happy to note that they can now get streaming Internet soundage as well, although you may have a heck of a time searching for a usable radio or podcast feed.
Of course, upgrading means being yet another step farther from being able to run homebrew on your PSP, especially if you've already been

I decided to go ahead and upgrade mainly becasue I'm not a huge homebrew fan (I tried to like it, but a talking clock is boring).. The RSS feature is nice, but I just wish that it would support video and all the other things that RSS 2.0 supports..

I'm doing this because I heard about a volume control issue that has been resolved for the location free TV in the PSP...anyone who's been using their PSP with the LFTV knows this is a serious issue.

I recommend that everyone buy two PSPs. One that you keep at 1.5 for homebrew and another that you upgrade. That's what I did, anyway. *grin*

Thanks for the shoutout PSP Fanboy i have spread the word about your site on PSP Message Boards, keep it up. I upgraded because its too late to go to hombrew because i have 2.50 and now with 2.60 i can play copyrighted videos and music.

Also, it's good to see them go into shorter bursts of updates ... If it was going to be 1.0, then 1.50, then 2.0, then 2.50, then 3.0 ... that would have sucked.
These smaller 2.60, 2.70, etc updates give us a few new toys every few weeks/months and thats good.

I decided to upgrade because of what happened to my psp. I downgraded to a 1.50 from 2.00 and i had a lot of snes, nes, and gameboy games, but when i downloaded pspersonalize, it didnt work and my psp wouldnt turn on, I ran the virus scan program and it didnt pick up anything but still my psp wouldnt turn on no matter what i did, my psp finally came on, but the screen looked blurry, or pixely, I upgraded to 2.01 from that point, and never put homebrew on my psp again, i have been updating it ever since

this software for the psp to update to version 2.60 is the best all you have to do is put a folder in the 'GAME' directory called'UPDATE' on your psp and put the 'EBOOT.PBP' in the 'UPDATE' folder and thats it all you have to do now is click on the up date on your psp console. wicked! thanks 'psp fan boy'
