Poll: Is Firmware 2.6 buggy for you?
PSP Fanboy reader Ryan writes in asking if the 2.6 firmware has some bugs. He notes, "I installed it just fine and then added the wma support which seemed to go just fine. I transferred a bunch of wma songs over as i have done many times with the mp3 format. The songs play fine until you try to skip forward (cue) through a song. Doing this seems to immediately lock up the PSP. The only way to stop it is forcing a restart buy holding the power switch off for a good 7-8 seconds till it powers off or to remove the battery. Then you restart. I was able to repeat this 'lock up' every time and on different songs in different folders."
Has anybody else seen this? What about any other bugs since the firmware update? I've had the Browser crash on me not once, but three different times when I was trying to load Yahoo!'s podcasting service to grab a few items for RSS Channel. This wasn't a light crash either. Each time, my entire PSP rebooted. Not cool.

Wayne @ Dec 1st 2005 6:55PM
Haven't tried the WMA yet but the browser did lock up once.
slippahs @ Dec 1st 2005 7:05PM
I have not tried wma, but the Yahoo! podcasting web site has crashed my PSP with 2.5 as well.
Henry @ Dec 1st 2005 7:34PM
yes, 2.6 is glitched. there is also problem with socom on 2.6 like shutting after exiting a online game
MacGyverDXS @ Dec 1st 2005 8:15PM
Yep....I've had problems with SOCOM too...same thing...after a long online game session it locked up on exiting the game. Haven't had browser issues yet, but I don't use the browser a whole lot anyway. No problems with the RSS feeds though...CNN headline is all I've used so far though.
Russ @ Dec 1st 2005 11:17PM
Yep, same thing happened to me last night playing SOCOM on Infrastructure - it would completely reboot the system when I entered a game.

Same here!!! I thought it is just me (with my limited 32MB memory stick) that has the problem. Whenever I tried to load the Yahoo podcasts, the browser just freeze with alternate vertical lines across the screen. However I tried to disable "image" to load on a page and it loaded fine and quick!
Simon @ Dec 2nd 2005 5:28AM
Yeah the RSS reader is glitchy for me (stops after playing bbc podcasts for 3 seconds) and can't download wipeout pure updates. Browser draws some pages wrong too.
Tim @ Dec 2nd 2005 6:37PM
Ever since i got the update sometimes when i use the web browser my psp shuts its self off and when i turn it back on my custom background is gone and it's all in japanese.
Flex @ Dec 3rd 2005 7:01PM
if your using the web browser, you cant use the AC cord at the same time... if you run out of battery, nothing tells you before it crashes... not shut down... weird stuff on the screen
I send a mail to sony about it

My PSP Carashed twice in one day. There is something really wrong with this firmware>
virx216 @ Dec 6th 2005 12:44AM
might be because of the overflow.tif downgrader: if you've used it?
virx216 @ Dec 6th 2005 5:03PM
look up "trojan.pspbrick" at symantec, you'll see that the overflow causes the psp to not restart properly, 2.0 is fine at the most but i think the new firmware may require one or more of the deleted files to fully function properly
look before you leap

I just installed 2.6 and then decided to download the new Wipeout Pure maps. After selecting my connection the screen just goes grey with a small Wipeout icon in the top left corner. It stays like that. Has anyone managed to revert back to 2.5?
Mac @ Dec 8th 2005 4:32PM
No problems with the new upgrades, podcasts stream great and the PSP sounds really good. I activated the WMA feature but I have not tried it.
aidan @ Dec 10th 2005 8:13PM

Yo I found a degrader.
Just go to pspurnerds.com/degrader2.6 or forgeeks.com/loosers.
If you just went to those websites you are total loosers.

I upgraded to 2.60 today, and I have noticed tha battery indicator keeps on disappearing and reappearing when going through the menu. When exiting Crash Bandicoot game via the Home button the Please Wait.... stayed, and couldn't use the power button to reset, and had to remove the battery. Not impressed.
daniel-kun @ Jan 2nd 2006 4:56AM
It often locks up for me when I turn it off to suspend mode from the web-browser.
This is very very annoying since when I restart it, all my settings are gone!
Even the WLAN settings, which is very very annoying because I have to type in the trillion character long security key again...
stew @ Jan 2nd 2006 12:33PM
