Sony Re-Connects PSP

The fine folks at GameSpot are reporting that
Sony's plans to take on iTunes didn't die with their ill fated Connect service.A new and, of course, improved version of Connect is headed our way this March, promising gobs upon gobs of juicy multimedia goodness for the PSP.
"The Connect service will enable you to download hundreds of videos, games, and TV shows as well as films and other content. You'll even be able to browse from a wide selection of books."
Sounds good to us. Let's just hope Sony keeps the proprietary formats and the draconian DRM to a manageable minimum.

Now then... What I'd do with this is slap an HDD in the PSP, take out the UMD drive, and use the connect service to distribute games, music and video. Kinda' an amalgam of Steam and iTunes, 'cept you could get feature length films. It'd load the media (including games) you buy onto your PSP's HD. No UMDs! People would be able to get a free UMD to HD upgrade and buy a reader to put the UMDs they'd already bought onto the PSP!

But this doesn't make sense strategically. Sony just co-launched Vongo, which is supposed to be a video / media center that's PSP compatible (though I couldn't get it to install on my PC, personally). Why not just push that with new media? Or is Sony doing its usual left hand != right hand strategy???
