Rumor: Final Fantasy XIII PS3 exclusive at E3

According to 1UP, the May issue of EGM contains a rumor that Final Fantasy XIII will be showing
up at next month's E3 for "a brief teaser video and confirmation from [Square Enix] that the RPG will be a PS3
exclusive." RPG fans, rejoice!What's a little shocking is that FFXIII would be unveiled before FFXII is even released outside Japan, but "rumblings" have apparently also been picked up that "Final Fantasy XIII is practically close to being finished" already. With all the delays to XII, it's certainly more than possible that a second team working on XIII's already got something to show by now.
It wasn't exactly surprising that FFXIII would show up as a PS3 exclusive--despite certain misquotes to the contrary--but you know that a new Final Fantasy is just what the next PlayStation needs (judging by how previews of FFX elevated the PS2's platform profile). Hopefully this little tidbit isn't EGM's way of stretching its April Fools' coverage to another issue (and another month).

I'm surprised they're making another one. Long ago I've heard they were going to end the series at XII.

they'll stop making FF games as soon as they stop making money off FF games.
The exclusive came as no surprise. But to say it's almost done? DAMN.

FFXIII would be the only reason for me to buy a PS3 so far. And maybe Resistance: Fall of Man. But FFXIII is a good reason, as long as it's not that crappy MMORPG stuff.

Hmmm... While it's possible that they had another team working on FFXIII I find it highly unlikely that it's close to done.
As happy as that would make me I have my doubts.

FXIII exclusive is very likely. But close to done? OK, FF9 came a year after FF8, but they had a lot more experience with the PS1 devkits. OK, and FFX came also a year after FF9, but the PS2 had a year out already. I doubt it is finished, specially because the dev kits are far from finished. And if it was finished on a Beta Kit, why would they make a FFXIII so early with so little experience in PS3 programming? Do they want it to underdeliver or what? I don't think it'll be a launch title, and this might be a joke. But if it is, I hope it is as visually stunning in 2007 as FFX was back in 2001 (and of course, have a fun fighting engine, gameplay, great score and great storyline, and everything great in general)

If the above news is true, then FF13 will NOT be a launch title for the PS3. It would be too soon after FFXII in America and Japan.
My guess will be a November 2007 (a year after the PS3 has been released) release at the earliest. Whether that's an international launch or Japanese one, I have no sweet clue.

I agree that it will probobly not be a launch title but i dont think it will be a whole year after launch. A title like FF13 doesnt need the christmas season to sell well.
I hope they change up the formula a bit though. I got sick of FF after 8.

In my opinion, there is no "formula" for Final Fantasy, but to most people, part of the reason that made fans deviate from FF, is that the formula actually changed. *sigh*
