Choose a PlayStation 3 lifestyle

CVG has the dirt on how the PS3 wants to try and become a "lifestyle server" for consumers thanks to the online support everyone's been talking about. Xbox Live has a good bit of support for the kind of things gamers can share with each other. What you've been playing, how you've been doing; these are the sort of things it seems like the PNP will try to be expanding on.

The tips they've received convey that Sony will try and let users check out a host of things from each other. Imagine being able to tell if one of your buddies even has his console turned on. Track websites like blogs or forums that they visit or view footage and highlights from games they've been playing.

It's these "lifestyle" features that Sony wants to bank on with their online platform. By allowing gamers to share, send videos and media while communicating on a such an open scale, the idea is to turn it into a lifestyle experience rather than just an online gaming one. Some people might feel there could be too much openness to this platform. Don't worry: there are supposed to be security measures in place to keep prying eyes out and insure that only authorized users have all those other nifty privileges.

Hopefully we will learn even more about it at the Sony event on May 8th.
