PS3 price and launch window per PSM
Team Xbox, a website not
dedicated to the PS3 in the least, has posted some details that were scraped from the latest issue of PSM, the
unofficial Playstation Magazine. In regards toward what the price for the system will be, PSM states "According
to Sony, the price of the system 'will not retail for under' about $425 Japanese yen. Since game consoles are typically
a little cheaper here in the U.S. than in Japan, it's reasonable for us to expect to see a price tag of
$399."
Also, the piece states that the console will be launching during early November with a simultaneous release of Sony's online gaming service, which will allow for players to engage in online multiplayer for free. Lastly, the mag supposedly says, something far less believable than the previous statements, that original PS and PS2 games will be able to be played on the console in 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

It is definitley far easier to believe that PS1 and PS2 games will be played at 1080i/p than (at least first gen) PS3 ones. The system definitely has the power for that, but it will take time for developers to figure out how to squeeze the power necessary for native PS3 games to be rendered at those resolutions.

" $425 Japanese yen. " Don't do inline conversions. That's just slack and reeks of cheapism.
"50,000 Japanese Yen ($425 USD)" would probably be a better choice.

I don't see how the consoles strength can be attributed to turning games into 1080i & p when they are not programmed at that level of resolution. That is plain crap. And means your a bit too gullible if you think there will much improvement playing ps1 & 2 games on PS3. The rest of the PSM is not surprising & is more than possible though.

Hey, I've got a PVR that outputs everything at 1080i... This includes stadard TV broadcasts... It's upscaling everything. This doesn't mean that older games will look any better, but it means that they will come out in a consistant resolution so you needn't keep fiddling with your video settings...

Man I just want this PS3 to come out already - I can't wait! It is going to blow the XBox 360 out of the water like the PS2 did to the Dreamcast.
