cannot fucking wait for this. images look amazing... gameplay (of what little we've seen) looks amazing... might actually be a contender for 7. (or at least closer than 10 was)

Square/Enix lost me at FFVIII. I mean...FFVII was really at another level. So there I go...I buy FF8 and Im so dissapointed I never touch FF again.
On another note...Am I the only one that realizes FF12 isnt even out yet? Sony is known to hype/exaggerate a product when its launch is some time away. At the same time, Halo 3 is supposed to launch early 2007 at you cant get bungie to say anything past "New Mombasa" and "Ancient Artifact".
Cage @ May 23rd 2006 2:28PM
And another thing...Microdot...where did you see this gameplay?!? Please provide a link...
SuicideNinja @ May 23rd 2006 2:53PM
You didn't like FF8? I'm actually in the process of playing it again. I like it a lot better than FF7 and FF9. FFX is still my favorite so far (but not FFX2). Anyway, I'm waiting to see if they ever remake FF7 before I touch it again.
It bugs me a little bit that FFXII isn't available outside of Japan yet and there's so much buzz on its sequel. But then again, it's a completely different game anyway.
Kendal @ May 23rd 2006 3:21PM
Actually, there will be online components. In an interview on IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/708/708994p1.html), "Square Enix describes Agito as an Online RPG, although as with Before Crisis, you'll be adventuring on your own, joining up with your party only when needed. The game will not have the feel of a massively multiplayer Online title where you form a party and adventure together, Tabata admitted."
As for Versus IGN has this: "Kitase chimed in with some comments on the Online prospects for the other two titles. The main FFXIII game may have some Online elements, although Online play won't be the main part of the title. Tetsuya Nomura made it clear that Versus is not being designed as an Online title, and that the chances of Online support are low."
Agito will be completely online, FFXIII will have components, and Versus will not even have components.
To join the conversation in the comments, I notice that not a single person has mentioned a pre-FFVII game. I personally think that FFVII is over rated, FFVIII was a dissapointment (I'm not saying VII and VIII weren't good, cause they were, just not as good as people say). The only game on the PSOne that was really good was FFIX. Please remember that Square made games before FFVII, even Square forgets that sometimes. FFVI was probaly one of the best, if not the best Final Fantasy games of all time (imho).
Always,
Kendal

Thats cool Kendal, but sales and demand for a sequal or remake to FF VII says other wise.
Kendal @ May 23rd 2006 4:40PM
@6 Dizz, Note at the end I said "(imho)". This is purely my opinion and I'm just putting my opinion out there. Just because there is such a huge demand for a sequel to VII doesn't mean it's the best.
Like I said, this is my opinion. I also believe that FFXI is a great game, and other don't share my enthusiasm for it. If you actually do the missions, see the cutscenes, and experience the story in FFXI you'll know that it has a very deep story and history. No one gives it the time though.

Kendal

Holy shit, it's like the first time I'm going to agree with Suicide Ninja, because damn, I think FF8 is the best of all, at least on most aspects.
Kendal @ May 23rd 2006 5:19PM
FFVIII was good. It had pretty graphics, nice character designs, and great music. However, in my opinion, I did not like the story too much.
While it was good, and it had it's moments that I really liked, I just didn't find it the best. The gameplay on the other hand was annoying. I didn't like the junction system all that much.
While it's true it's one of the more customizable systems, I like the idea of certain characters being better at certain things than others. It gives the characters more of their own personality.
Always,
Kendal

Kendal, that's a good point: "The characters should have certain strengths and weaknesses". But I still love the junction stats system. Maybe a mix of junction with strengths and jobs would work a lot better.
Another reason I really liked FF8 for was its music, awesome cut-scenes, lots of content (4 discs at the time was too damn much), and great storyline.
Yes, it could have been better, but I like it the best. FF6 is also great, and I agree: FF7 is overhyped indeed (not to say it's not great; but if you analize it, it's a remake of FF6).
Let's hope FFXIII is better than any of the ones we've played. I'm still waiting for my "Chrono Break" though.
dizz @ May 23rd 2006 6:03PM
FF VII was the best to me, and then VIII and then X. i did not like IX, i though it was too much of a step back and plus it was too easy. In FF VII i liked the materia system the most of all systems, i dont know why but i just do. i like it better when everyone can summon and use magic. but i will also say this, FF VII was the first time i actually played an RPG. the only thing i didnt like about FF VIII was the ending, i did not understand that at all.
Cage @ May 23rd 2006 6:21PM
Like I said...havent played passed 8 so who knows. I might like the others better. The battle system I remember got too complicated and instead of "fantasy" graphics they go with a more realistic scheme. 7 just made me feel more like I was within the story. It made more sense. Nevertheless, at least do some kind of marketing for FFXII first...
Cage @ May 23rd 2006 6:34PM
And Hinkle...can a brotha get back to 0 at least?!? This is blatant racism. LOL...nah...but seriously...hook me up!!

"The only game on the PSOne that was really good was FFIX."
It's interesting to see different opinions on the FF lineup. People either love 9 and hate the others or love 7 & 8 and hate 9. I'm the latter.
I think FFXI was an ABOMINATION. I rushed through that game faster than any RPG I've played before it because it was so horrible. I didn't even do the sidequests or level up my characters which I've always done before. The shoddy medival theme, lame story, and dorky characters just turned me off. I kept playing hoping it would get better and it never did it for me.
The best thing IMO on FF8: the Junction system. It's much more versatile than the Materia system, Sphere Grid, Dress Spheres, and whatever it was that FF9 used. You can get some crazy customization. I like junctioning DRAIN to ST-ATK....getting healed when you every time you attack is awesome.
Goobers @ May 23rd 2006 8:39PM
"It's much more versatile than the Materia system, Sphere Grid, Dress Spheres, and whatever it was that FF9 used. You can get some crazy customization. I like junctioning DRAIN to ST-ATK....getting healed when you every time you attack is awesome." SuicideNinja
uh... what about killing a Behemoth using counter and linked Materia? which is from FF7 anyway.
Sphere Grid is from FF10, Dress Sphere is from FFX-2.
now that you mention it... i can't recall what they used in FF9... maybe they didn't use anything complicated...
*found it* items that "teach" you your abilities.
but as to which was my fav... it would probably be FF2US (aka FFIV). it was the first i ever played. you see a guy losing his rank, his king, and his kingdom... and that's just at the beginning. then he loses his love and his friend (though neither for too long)... and eventually, he loses who he was. then makes a new journey of his life (sounds cliche, no?) makes friends and allies... and loses them to fate (the Twins, the Sage, etc). and at the end, everything is resolved (of COURSE!).
my only problem was... i was playing on a busted SNES. the Mode7 chip didn't work right, so none of the scrolling worked correctly (you try beating Super Mario World with it!)... it's as if everything had two tracks that weren't aligned, and it alternated between them every second (you try landing an airship when you aren't sure there's even ground below you). at the time i didn't even realize it, and THOUGHT that was how it was SUPPOSED to be.
PS3Fan @ May 23rd 2006 10:55PM
anyone has a release date on this?
Kasunaga @ May 23rd 2006 11:21PM
Moggle?
matjet @ May 24th 2006 3:22AM
i was about to point out what moogles were when... wait a minute.... dident you say moggles!?... ah.i gota work on that spellin
Goobers @ May 24th 2006 4:44AM
PS3Fan: probably 2008 (maybe 2007 in Japan).
to Kasunaga: if you don't know what a Moggle is.... you haven't been playing FF... at which point, you're left with finding a site with a "background" of FF games, if you're interested... or, if not, just this... a Moggle is a little white creature (think little snow man with legs)... and something sticking out of it's head (single antenna with a little sphere at the end). at one time, it had wings.... they're one of the mascots of the FF games... the other being airships, chocobos and a guy named Cid (sometimes the duo, Vicks and Wedge too).
a Chocobo is large yellow bird (though in FF7, it came in other colors too)... looks kinda like a normal bird with ostrich legs (and just as large).

Actually, I *loved* every FF, but there are indeed some better than others. My favorite is 8, even when it has repetitive battles where you just use GFs (and you can't skip the cut scenes :( ).
FFIX was awesome, but it is not the best indeed. I did like its return to its medieval roots, though. FFVIII was to me the most original (because of the fighting system and scenario). FFVII is just a copy of FFVI (even if it's still good).
The one that to me is the best in graphics (until FFXII comes out I guess) is FFX. I liked the storyline, but the music was not as good as the one found in every previous final fantasy. Also, Yuna whined about everything and Tidus was more annoying than any male character that has been out before on any FF (but that's probably because of the voices, and perhaps that's why Zelda keeps to be great; no voices that ruin your imagination). But the most annoying thing about FFX, is that there was no World Map view like there was in every other Final Fantasy, you simply pointed where in the map did you want to go. Disregarding these minor flaws, it was still a great game.
I hope that the World Map view comes back. I would also like to get some sequels/remakes from very old final fantasies.
And goobers, isn't it "Moogle", and not "Moggle", or am I wrong?

I realize the error, but it was quoted directly from the website. I could not change it, eventhough it needed to be, as to do so would be unethical. Nice catch though. :)

FF8 FTW @ May 24th 2006 2:49PM
In my opinion, FF8 was one of the best Final Fantasy games. The step up in graphics from 7 to 8 was impressive. The cutscenes were awesome, the junction system was intuitive and highly customizable, and the slew of characters you could control (two teams of three at one point) was impressive. You could even control two of the bad characters, Edea and Seifer. Even powering up each individuals weapons, be it Squall's gunblade or even Rinoa's dog, was hot, adding an arsenal of finishing moves to everyone's limit breaks. I wish they would remake 8 with better visuals just as a collector's item. My personal favorite.
Kendal @ May 24th 2006 2:50PM
@14, SuicideNinja, I do not hate FFVII and FFVIII, I'm just saying that I think they are way over rated. I personally enjoyed VII and IX the best (out of the PSOne era). In the SNES Era it was VI. Out of the NES Era FFII (The real FFII(JPN)). PS2 Era, right now it's X and XI. Waiting for XII (got it pre-ordered).
Always,
Kendal

FF8 FTW, indeed! FF4 was awesome too.
Oh, and no problem David. If it's unethical to correct it, but it is still incorrect, then why don't you add "(sic)" next to it? ;)

is 8 the one that had the long ass summons that you couldnt skip? if so, the story was great but the combat sucked.
