"This is not a done deal" says O'Hanrahan
You've no doubt heard about the reality-check coined by Niall O'Hanrahan of Sony Ireland. If you haven't, let's recap.Sony execs have been tripping over themselves since E3 trying to cover ground. They've gone so far as to call the PC out and, to a lesser extent, lead the press on an anti-Sony campaign thanks to many a fallible quote. In the face of a jeering crowd, they have had a large amount of blind confidence that everyone wants to get a piece of.
Now, arguably for the first time, a Sony executive is owning up and saying what needed to be said: "We have a marketing challenge from now until launch. This is not a done deal. It will require a lot of effort from us. ... We would never say we cannot fail." This is definitely a big contradiction to what we've been hearing from other Sony cheerleaders. If they had just leveled with everyone like this in the first place, it would have saved them truckloads of grief. Now it's time for Sony to take a different angle on the PR since they have our attention.

Classic blunder that and Never get involved in a land war in asia... but I digress. I think the PS3 campaign has been flawed from launch. They have to move away from a RayStation and back to PlayStation and they will be able to get all their ducks in a row. It will take some work and a huge change in thinking but they can get this back on track. Remember it is the best video game system ever with the new DVD format, not the best New DVD Format with a new game system.

That's exactly what I think of them!
At least one of them is making sense. They should give this guy a raise. And fire Kirai and Kutaragi.
Thank you for the honest post, Adams. Unfortunately, I will assume some of the fanboys will cry foul like they always do, whining about how Joystiq and the fanboy sites hate Sony.
Sony just isn't handling themselves very well lately, leaving a plethora of negative news in their wake. If there was better news, we'd see it.

The only way for Sony to save face at this point is to shut up and show some games that rival what will be seen on the 360 this winter. Or show some tidbits of an online plan that might give folks hope that it actually exist. And they should ban all FMV for a while.
Lowering the price of the PS3 wouldn't hurt either.

its nice not getting some BS from a sony suit for a change but i dont think it matters, sony are allmost sure to win the next-gen fight & the HDDVD/blueray wars, i suppose thats why sony are allways (not inclueding this guy of course) BSing people.

it is actually a great price since you are getting a blu-ray player.

With the PlayStation 3, we are keeping to our belief that we have the true next-generation console.

It may be a great price for a RAYstation but gamers want a PLAY station. It may be a steal for a blu-ray but many, especially casual gamers, will identify it as a rip off for a video game system.

as an adendum-
it is a great deal. A great deal and a great price are two VERY differernt things. A deal implies you are getting a lot for your money, which you are. A great price implies that what you are buying is below the average for that type of product, since this is first and foremost a video game machine (if sony didnt want that they would have rebranded it) it is well ABOVE the average and therefore not a great price.

I'm not worried about the PS3 flopping. I'm worried about being shipped off to here.
