The truth will set you free: old vibes and new tech?
The cost of Sony and Immersion force feedback litigation... $90 million.
One Pelican PlayStation controller bought off eBay... $5.
Proving that the motion-sensing technology and rumble feature worked together ten years ago... priceless.
This is a video that shows off a decade-old controller that worked with not only PlayStation games like WarHawk back in the day, but also PS2 games like Gran Tourismo. You can thank the independent source of PSM for the find, though the video is admittedly awkward.
What does this prove? Obviously vibration feedback and motion-sensing in a controller is not only possible, but it's already been done! So why isn't Sony jumping on this already? Who knows... But it's looking more and more like the bad vibes between Immersion and their patented rumble feature could be keeping Sony from implementing it. With TouchSense claiming to fix it all, and proof that it's been done before, what else could it be?

Wow...this video is on nearly every blogsite (even mine, but as of last week).
It seems that the last few issues of PSM, and I'm getting a feeling they are being self-deprecating. They've not had much good to say about Sony...but then again, no one does lately.
Sony, just pay up and put rumble back in there.

Amazing how a company who is like "fine dining" cant afford to pay to get rumble. Cheap...cheap...cheap...
OyoyoY123 @ Jun 26th 2006 2:52PM
so~ nintendo ripped off sony's motion sensing IDEAs
hahaha

As I remember it...
I think the official excuse for not picking up the dual shock rights was the claim that it will not work with the motion sensing tech,
BUT i think this goes back more to Sony being slightly pissed off that after many years of both PS1 and PS2 dual shock technology, some one decided to finally file suite on an apparent copy-right infringement. Now tell me, would you want to go back and buy this technology from a company that did this?

because you want to sell units... plain and simple.

Microsoft pays. So should Sony and their "fine dining experience". What a joke...

How can Playstation 3 get owned, SCE never said it will be or is revolutionary, only PS3 fanboys say that.
Fan @ Jun 28th 2006 11:01AM
"Microsoft pays."
Actually Microsoft bought and paid. They bought a part of Immersion when they paid the bill. This is why Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in the world right now. Then there are of course consumers like you, cage, who fall for this BS. I expect if Immersion turns a nice profit Microsoft will buy it entirely and then Cage will think Microsoft invented rumble. hahaha
I wonder why Microsoft never gets hit with the copycat stamp? Every single idea it has made money of has come from other companies and other peoples ideas wich they either ripped of or bought up.

This had to be one of the dumbest comments I have ever heard from you Fan. Sony wouldnt have had the same ability to buy it as well?!? Maybe if they would consider playstation a GAMING console things may have been different. As a gamer I dont care why something is not in the controller. I just want it in. Figure out a way to do that. A true "fanboy" sits and makes excuses for a companies shortcomings when it hurts YOU as a gamer. Grow up. I though understand that you are in Japan right now next to the Sony building waiting for any Sony rep to come out so that you could kiss his feet...
