Japanese mag surveys development community on PS3

In the latest issue of the Japanese magazine Ge-Maga, which is also the longest running magazine in Japan, an anonymous survey was held regarding developers takes on Sony's slammin' console. Since most of us can't read kanji very well, IGN did the honors of translating the stats and they are summarized below:Price:
- 90.29% -- think it's too pricey
- 9.71% -- think it's juuuuuuust right
- 56.31% disagree with it
- 39.32% agree with it
- 4.37% have no opinion
- 55.82% don't think they'll help sell PS3
- 39.32% say they're fine and dandy like sour candy
- 4.86% are unsure how the launch titles will help
- 48.54% unchanged
- 32.52% are less confident
- 3.39% felt relieved
- 15.55% have no impression to give
- 62.13% say no way
- 35.43% say yes way
- 2.44% say maybe

This is too funny. Before the specs/price point were announced for the PS3 this and other sites were flooded with fanboys claiming this console is the second coming. Now? The last 3 postings can't even get responses. But anyway...
The numbers dont lie. This poll wasn't created at a PS3/360 fanboy site. Instead of thinking blogs in general are biased these days people should be considering the fact that most gamers in general feel this way. Again...I am open to getting a PS3 (I wont for awhile because I can barely convince my wife to get a 360), its just that for me as an american gamer there is little to no appeal.

I would have liked to know which developers they polled, cause if it's just a couple "mom and pop" joints, that develope one game every 3-6 years, of course they'd disagree with the price points and hardware.
It's funny cause everyone is crying about the PS3 now...but you know eventually people are gonna start buying it anyway....just like they did with the PS1 and PS2...:P

I feel bad for all of you sony fanboys. I was just like you. Scooping up San Andreas, Metal Gear, and GT as soon as they released, cuz I could...I HAD a ps2.Actually it was my 3rd ps2. They always got "disc read error"titus. I decided to buy an xbox instead of the planned obsolecence that is ps2. After becoming addicted to xboxlive I was I couldnt go back. I now have a 360 and everything I have read makes me believe that xbox developement will be very strong(have you seen Gears of War, GRAW, Halo3,Lost Planet,Mass Effect jsut to name a few) and ps3 exclusives will be few and far between. Cross over now and save that heart-ache the ps3 will cause all of you.

You were an ms bitch all along, stop lying and go play your FPS on your bitch box. PS is about variety not just FPS, playstation has the biggest line up and exclusives by far.
Playstation is more than halo and halo clones that ms offers. I feel sad for ms bitches, it must be boring to play the same shit over and over again. You bought a 360 and you're probably still playing halo 2. Xbox will be worse than ever and the PS3 will far exceed what we are expecting from it. Do yourself a favor and get a jor so you can buy a real console.

These are the 360 exclusives (some of them are also Windows games, but I mean exclusives in the console market) I'm looking forward to or already own. Unreal Tournament isn't a PS3 exclusive.
I don't know yet if I'll be getting a PS3. I prefer the 360 games, but Kingdom Hearts, God of War, and Heavenly Sword may be enough to get me to buy one.

I'm not saying Sony will not have some great games, but lets face it, the 360 has the upper hand when it comes to exclusives. Especially at the higher price. And personally I like to play games, not watch CGI movies like FFXIII. Mass Effect is going to have its way with FF.

Silent Hill 5 is unconfirmed to be PS3 exclusive. Remember SH 2 and 4 were on the Xbox.
As for devil May Cry 4, Capcom's exclusiveness changes. Like the gamecube exclusive Resident Evil 4......
But anyway. There is also Lost Oddesy, Chopains Bell, Project Slyph

So many 360 fanboys on a PS3 site, it's sickening. Anyway, having sequels is a great way to attract fans of a particular series, especially when it comes to great franchises. Original IP doesn't guarantee Original gameplay, much less attraction to gamers, or even success. If it was all about original IP, then Nintendo's Wii wouldn't be that high among public opinion with Zelda, Mario and Metroid for the Wii. In fact, I think that the only title that could match the hype of Zelda TP is Zelda 64, and none of them were original IP... yet both have original gameplay. Final Fantasy has always had something original to add... every Metal Gear Solid has been great. Tekken is easily one of the best-selling fighting games, something that can't be said about DOA. And so on, and so on....
360 has a lot of "original IP", but unfortunately most of them are First Person games, Racing games, or Shooters. As of now, it has nothing that could compare to the likes of (or surpass) Zelda, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Take Lost Planet and Dead Rising... they are both "Japanese" titles, and yet Lost Planet looks a lot like MechWarrior (except a lot better, but nothing that could heavily attract Japanese gamers as much as Dragon Quest or FF do), and Dead Rising's director even admits that it is not a title directed to the Japanese public, but rather to "americans". Enchanted Arms and 99 Nights had lukewarm receptions, some respected industry reviewers even said that 99 nights is barely worth a rental. It's up to Hironobu Sakaguchi to save 360 from Oblivion (pun not intended) in Japan. Mass Effect > FFXIII? Ha, don't kid yourself. You are severely underestimating FFXIII. Prey, Gears of War, Alan Wake... well, they might be very nice, but they are shooters again! A good console should have plenty of games of all existing genres in its library, not mainly two or three genres and then just two RPGs and two adventure games.
What's sad is that most of the 360 fans here can't afford a PS3 because they already bought a 360. I already have a 360, and while it is a great console and I'm really enjoying XBLArcade (especially Bejeweled 2 and Outpost Kaloki X), it is far from perfect. PS3 will also have its flaws, but I believe it will be in a better position than 360 in many ways, including the games, excluding the price.

Boots...the PS3 doesnt bring in nearly as many exclusives that it had before. You are going to be seeing 95%+ the same games on the 360. If the 360 is not "diverse" then the same will be said of the PS3.

Uh, nice try. I have played Lost Planet, haven't you? Aren't you supposed to have a 360? It seems that all you are looking for is a fight, since you don't even have a 360. The Lost Planet demo has been out for quite some time, and it's a great game. But I'm not sure if it will attract Japanese gamers as much as FF7 gave the victory to PS1. That's what I mean by the game being too "american-like", being a shooter. If that offends you, then you need to grow up.
Admittedly, I haven't played Dead Rising, but that's why I said that the *director of the game* said so. It's old news, you criticize Joystiq and its sister blogs for "always posting old news" but you don't know that one? I guess Joystiq shouldn't have listened to you and posted the story again.

Let me remind you that all MGS titles are some of the most acclaimed titles, worldwide. That includes the first Solid, and the last one, Substistence. So your opinion is pretty much worthless against everyone else's.

I never said God of War was comming to PS3, I said the 360 needs a game like God of War. Don't worry, Too Human is coming, so as long as the frame rate improves (just download the trailer on Xbox LIVE Marketplace... oh wait, you don't have one).

I find it funny that Sony and Ms boys are hashing it out on the comments. Sony is better the xbox is better. Best of all no one seems to be saying anything in the comments about the last line of this article. It dosn't say the ps3 will have main competition with the 360. Yet here you ms and Sony fanboys are bickering against eachother. The article says the Wii will be the real competition for the ps3. Sony dosn't need to worry about xbox. Why? No offense ms boys but that cute little game made to take the japan market viva pinnate, it just isn't going to work. Nintendo and Sony own the Japan market and Nintendo eversince E3 has been having postive buzz. Sony fans I'd be watching out for Nintendo more then ms. If anyone can take the throne away from Sony it would be Nintendo because they have a strong foothold in Japn. I also want to say sony fanyboys good job on the psp it is giving some real competion to the ds lite but it still can't take the handheld market away from Nintendo but at least it competes.

Sorry JC. Gimmick controls and original Xbox graphics arent going to quite control the video game market. Not when you can go to your nearest Best Buy and be blown out of your mind with the difference in graphics.

By your comments I can tell your a little younger than the average poster...so I will be nice. But know this, the "American" market is where companies gain the most revenue (I know it might be a little over your head but maybe you could ask your teacher what that means?)

JC, you do have a point, but Nintendo's price point, while being attractive, it also means it will be appealing as a second console (or if it was the first one, it won't seem too hard on your wallet if you buy a second one, like a PS3 or a 360).
Nintendo still has to shake off their "kiddy" image from the public. They also need to convince everyone, including (or excluding?) hardcore gamers to move their arms like tinker bell or to convince them that it is as relaxing, or even more relaxing, than holding a classic style controller. They need to tell DS user why using a stylus, which is common in PDAs, should be as common as waiving your hands all over the place. That and getting more 3rd party support, and why graphics won't matter this time.
I'm really looking forward to the game "Sadness". I bet that game should make graphics not matter, or at least pass the mom test.

Boots nicely put and I 100 percent agree with you as for cage let me inform you as you seem to be some retard who makes stupid assumptions. I am 25 years old Moron so before you go making asummptions get your facts because the word assume has the word ass in it which you seem to make yourslef look like. Also cage I have a one year old child and as someone who is a provider for my family I would much rather buy games that are fun not just pretty. I'm sure I offended you so you felt the need to talk down to me. I find that sad. So did this website that's why they gave you a negative star. You seem to not see facts very well which I find even more sad. Graphics don't always make a game. I find many who still enjoy playing games like Super Brothers Mario 3, Golden Axe or Joust. My oldest brother loves Joust. That my friend has crap graphics. I ask you cage why should someone like my brother still love playing Joust if it's about the graphics? Also the American market is where companies gain the most revenue? Are kidding me have you heard of Japan? Americia is important but Japan is right up there. One last thing if I was a child did you feel tough talking down to me. People like you need to grow up because you can't engage in real conversation. You talk down to others to find more meaning in your useless life. Let me give you some advice don't assume things you don't know and don't be a prick just because you disagree with someone else's opinion. Just for the record, developers don't make a lot more money in America, it depends on the game. I can tell you that FF8 made above 150 million dollars in sales the first day it was out in Japan, and yet it made "only" 20 million dollars in the states in one week (that's twice the time). That's because of both the amount of games sold and the prices in Japan and the states.
As I said above, it depends on the likes of each region. Halo 3 is going to make A LOT of money, but don't count on having a 100 million dollar sell out in japan. In the states, maybe even more than a FF does in japan... then again, who knows, those numbers are reached in japan since games in japan are more expensive, especially a Square game like Final Fantasy (they cost between 80 and 90 dollars over there!!!). I don't remember having paid more than 60 bucks for any Final Fantasy title. Hell, for any PS1 or PS2 title. I do remember paying up to 80 bucks for some SNES and N64 cartridges, though.

Because it has a gun then its a shooter!? Snake has a gun in MGS...that must be a shooter as well. Only difference is MGS has many more movie shots. Movie shots are very important...right.

NO. It has MANY guns, and grenades, just like all other shooters. I didn't say it is a "First Person Shooter", because it is not. It is a shooter, or a third person shooter.
I did expect that hilarious response from you, instead of simply admitting to not having played the Demo. Unbelievable.

I never really commented on Mass Effect, I only said not to underestimate Final Fantasy, especially next to a franchise yet to be born, much less one that is "Sci-Fi oh so attractive to eastern gamers... not".
There are reviews on Enchanted Arms already, and I've downloaded the trailer too, something you haven't because you don't have a 360. Even when the 360 fanboy is you, not me.
Again, you don't even know the gameplay on MGS4 and FFXIII, so why even bother writing nonsense?

I'm not making my opinion out of other's opinions, I mentioned industry leaders and reviewers opinions because they can tell you how it plays and how it has been received. I've told you also my opinion on Lost Planet and I told you it is a great game, but not one that will pull a FF7 on Japan. These are many opinions against just yours. Learn some reading comprehension next time.

Hell yeah boots I agree. Looks like you got taken to the cleaners cage. If you were johny cage you just got finished FATALITY. Hey bey the way you said the Wii will have xbox graphics. You should do some reading up Cage. The graphics will be more powerful than the xbox. The Wii has even been said to have a graphics chip that could be on par with the 360. We will see but you really don't pay much attention to the news. If you did you'd know that. You call the Wii contoller a gimmick so is the ds stylus gimmick also. If so the gimmick is working there. If it's such a gimmick then why was it causing a stampede at e3? Why was the wait for the Wii 4 to 5 hours long? You say English must be my second languange. It must not even be something you speak or understand because you don't even know the meaning of the word gimmick. Here's a good english word for you cage DUMBASS.
