PS3's US website had smoke but no fire
All right, so according to our pals at Joystiq, among other websites hopping all over this story like a bunch of crazed trolls, the U.S. Playstation 3 website had a smoke-screen effect ... with an Apple logo watermark. An honest mistake? Most likely, since the PR guy at Sony didn't notice initially and when he did, said "that's f---in' funny."Word on the street is the website was using, most likely, a trial version of Apple Shake. It's fixed now, but Sony will make a statement later today.

Why make a statement unless there's an announcement forthcoming?
I'm thinking the announcement is iPod and iTunes integration with the PS3 and maybe something about Apple helping Sony with their OS interface.
It was rumored the other day Microsoft is working on their own iPod and iTunes like service, so this seems plausible. I'm thinking Sony is having to talk about this earlier than they wanted, so they don't look like they're copying Microsoft.

1,
You couldn't be farther from the truth.
Considering the PSP is in direct competition with the iPod and the Sony Music service for iTMS, why would they buckle now and take on a partnership is Apple?
It would be like Sony and Microsoft coming together and building one console for gen3 of the next-next gen wars.
Besides the fact that Sony has announced a LONG time ago that the OS is Linux based.
Dude get your facts right before running your mouth with any PS3-fanboy-Blather.
Sony is cheap, and overpricing a console so their core-demographic can't afford it.

Sony's own music service has been less than successful. If you can't beat em, why not join em? There's no need to re-invent the wheel. Besides, Apple and Sony have worked together in the past on the Macintosh.
Why not have the PSP or PS3 be able to download from iTunes? It would broaden the reach of iTunes, and give Sony an instant library.
Anyway, here's a couple of links about Sony and Apple, speculating on their future together

I'm not saying Apple is picking sides, however I think there's potential for a collaboration with Sony.
Here's what I think happened. Somewhere along the way during the PS3 development, either Sony or Apple approached one another over iTunes and iPod integration. We all know the 360 integrated with the iPod, however, curiously without much fanfare over the feature, or iTunes integration. I've never heard Apple's name mentioned as endorsing the feature. Now we know that Sony's President was present at MacWorld, and was even on stage with Steve Jobs. We also know an executive from Apple is now working at Sony. In the past month, and even in the last couple of days, we've seen rumors that Microsoft is working on their own iPod-type device and iTunes-like services. Supposedly it'll even scan your iTunes music files and convert your songs to their service, free of charge. I'm speculating Microsoft activities are the result of an Apple/Sony collaboration over the PS3 or vice versa. I'm also speculating because Microsoft's music plans has been in the news as of late, it may force Sony/Apple's hand to reveal their plans a little earlier than expected. The industry has suspected that SOMETHING is happening.
Anyway, because we have a vague idea of Microsoft's plans, for Sony to announce the same thing later, may make them seem as if they're 'following' or 'copying' Microsoft.
The other curious thing that happened in the last day or so, is suddenly Lumines Live! is now showing on xbox.com as being slated for release 'July 2006' when no previous release date was ever announced. Lumines, as many know, was one of the most popular titles on the PSP, and is now coming to Microsoft's XBLA service. It's supposed to integrate with music or music videos.
I say Sony and Apple are collaborating together, and I personally think it's a good idea. Imagine if iTunes were available on the PS3, the possibilities that opens. It would also be cool if you could link the PSP to iTunes as well.
