PlayStation 3 game prices revealed from Best Buy
That's right boys and girls, Best Buy Canada is touting bold game prices on their website. For the ripe price of $74.99, these jokers don't come cheap. But if you thought the next-generation of gaming was going to cost you anything less than an arm or a leg, you might as well dust off your cartridges.Does this really come as a surprise though? With a console as steep as the PlayStation 3, it'd be naive to think the games would be bargain-priced. As much as I'd like to say "Keep your eyes out for an amended page" or be wary of the current costs, we may be kidding ourselves thinking that next-gen games are going to be anything cheaper than 75 bucks a pop.

Sony reps have stated before that next gen game prices are in general at the same level as of today, with a chance of a slight increase.
What are you expecting from Best Buy or any other retailer? They wanna be on the save side. Better decrease the price tag afterwards. I've seen other figures on the net. So far no consistency, which tells me, they havn't been announced yet by Sony. So take those with a grain of salt.

well aint that a kick in the love machine
MMagic- if the article is true, expect EB to ask for their extra 10 bucks when you go to pick it up

The end for Sony is coming soon...
My prediction:
Nintendo will come out on top in the Japanese markets, killing Sony and M'soft.
M'soft will dominate in the U.S. and Europe, with the Wii coming in second.
The average consumer will not be willing to buy in at Sony's price point when M'soft is offering the same games and graphics for way less...

That's 75 Canadian dollars which means PS3 games will be $5 more expensive than Xbox games. US price will probably be $65 American dollars, European price 75 euro (which is a lot more than 65 US dollar, but also includes almost 20% VAT).
Fan @ Jul 19th 2006 10:09AM
If game prices go over 100$ here, wich is the going rate for Ps2 and xbox games im gonna cry. 360 games are about 110$.
Ben @ Jul 19th 2006 10:33AM
The price is $75 CANADIAN. As in Canadian dollars. Not US dollars. Does it include tax? We don't know.
Jay @ Jul 19th 2006 10:54AM
You're right Ben. According to the same site Xbox 360 software is $69.99. So using that same logic for US prices, PS3 games would be what MMagic already said $64.99. I guess that makes sense since all the discs will be Blu-ray.
johnnyg993 @ Jul 19th 2006 10:55AM
exactly, ben. the website is bestbuy.ca, which means that's canadian dollars. 75 canadian dollars comes out to be 66.26 USD
Ben @ Jul 19th 2006 11:20AM
So PS3 games are going to be about $0 to $5 (in USA dollars) more expensive than XBOX 360 games. In other words, about the same price.
Editors: This news post is just ridiculous. Unless it's your goal to mislead people, REWRITE IT.
adamsb @ Jul 19th 2006 11:20AM
Good one dudes.
So with taxes (which aren't shown) we're still pretty high up there (in my *cheapskate* opinion)
Ben gets a star, because he's so cute when he gets angry ^_^
jc @ Jul 19th 2006 11:26AM
Ouch... $85.49 with tax per game. Too bad we can't sell blood up here in Canada.
Cage @ Jul 19th 2006 12:39PM
Yeah! I get to pay an extra $5 for having a blue-ray disk! Yeah! I dont care if its the exact same game on the 360. I dont care if there is no extra content...
Ben @ Jul 19th 2006 12:42PM
I guess I'm just tired of the anti-Sony forces lying about so many things.
(Why are there anti-Sony forces, BTW? Of all the things to care enough about to intentionally lie and mislead people about, Sony-hatred seems to be about the most frivolous.)
SuicideNinja @ Jul 19th 2006 2:33PM
Yeah...it is Canadian...so the point is moot. We really need prices from several areas: Japan, US, and Europe in order to have appropriate comments.
I can't see PS3 non-collectors-edition games going over $70 in the US...if they did...sheesh...
Paul @ Jul 19th 2006 2:45PM
now we feel how all those ms fanboys felt for years i guess.
for everyone for something there is someone against something
Kid Muscle @ Jul 19th 2006 3:08PM
So in USD it's about $65, which is exactly what I expected. So if you buy a PS3 you are paying $5 more for more disc space, and supposedly faster frame rates....fine by me.
Hell nintendo was selling 64 games for $70 bucks 10 years back....that was insane back then....with pricee inflation....$65 is normal.
I'm just glad they aren't $75-$85.
Paul @ Jul 19th 2006 3:58PM
but EA didnt get NFL and then up the price 40% on madden...
cap-n-crunch @ Jul 19th 2006 4:34PM
Sony remember back when n64 had those expensive cartridges? And you with the cheap disks and all thoose pc ports in the late 90's? YOU KICKED NINTENDO'S ASRSE!
Now why are you making the same mistake nintendo did?
I believe they were counting on brand loyality too.
JJ @ Jul 20th 2006 1:46AM
That's strange... my local gaming store has prices for most of its PS3 games listed at 59.99 and they're "GUARANTEED" at that price for preordering and what not.
So i guess if the games do turn out 65 american...the store's out 5 bucks on each game heh.
bub @ Jul 20th 2006 3:48PM
You might have mentioned in your article the fact that everything is more expensive in Canada. Go to the bookstore. Look at the price of a book. Now look at the Canadian price. The dollar is worth less in Canada. We have known about this since, oh... elementary school. Now, go read a book.
avery @ Jul 21st 2006 12:27PM
Every new release game on any console here in Canada is always 10$ more plus tax. We have to pay 70$ plus tax for 360 games. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 games were only 60 bucks in the US. We canadians always get screwed over just like the PS2 launch price in Canada 549$ plus tax.
hot zizzy @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:33AM
"we may be kidding ourselves thinking that next-gen games are going to be anything cheaper than 75 bucks a pop"
There are plenty of next-gen games under 75 bucks, some even as low as $40, but they are only on the superior Xbox 360, not the PS3. No matter how hard you try, pretending the PS3 is the only next-gen system won't make it true.
