Entitle this! Sony names their own achievements

A wise man once said, "The merit of originality is not novelty; it is sincerity." Having said that, a recent EGM Live podcast revealed what Sony could be calling their own version of game Achievements. Enter... the Entitlements!
At a point during the first third of the podcast, Dan Hsu spoke about how these Entitlements could be a key player in the next-gen cross-platform scene. Due to the infamously rising development costs, bringing the same game from one console to another is shaping up to be a very cost-effective alternative to exclusive titles (sad as it may be). So if you earn some Achievements on a certain ported game, chances are you will be able nab the same Entitlements on Sony's service just as easily.
The editors also made a very sharp point: wouldn't it be great to see something tangible awarded to those gamers with high Entitlements? Perhaps a free retro game to download, or an honorary icon/avatar for your profile?

Man... Sony is always on the cutting edge. One original idea after the other.

Does anyone actually know the definition of "entitlements" because if they did then they wouldnt have named them that that is for sure.

It is a shame they must do the exact same thing. Wouldn't it be nice though, if you could actually use the points to purchase goods online(map packs, music, etc)? Now that would be original!

The Joystiq/PS3 Fanboy/Engadget bloggers need to get their stuff straight. Sony mentioned this A LONG TIME AGO, and were speaking hypothetical. The EGM guys mentioned it because they were on the subject, and weren't making some kind of breaking announcement. They actually caught wind of this back in March...... not over this last weekend. March. That's a pretty long time ago. How about actually keeping up with PS3 news before posting something like it's NEWS when it's anything but....
When will these silly news sites learn to stop snooping on eachother and posting eachother's "news" as their own?

Nintendo announced something similar a good while back. I don't see this as stealing an idea, but taking what is obviously a positive trend in the online gaming world.
Now acting like it's your idea and it's revolutionary... that's something else.

Definitions of 'tangible':
-perceptible by the senses especially the sense of touch; "skin with a tangible roughness"
-having physical substance and intrinsic monetary value ; "tangible property like real estate"; "tangible assets such as machinery"
...somehow, I don't think downloadable games or honorary icons/avatars are tangible...unless you take a picture of your screen and print it out on paper.
