How 'bout a pink PS2 to go with that pink Razr phone?
Everyone knows girls aren't quite as hardcore the gamer as the male species. There are, of course, exceptions. Look at the Sims. The ladies love a game about simulating life. As a quote from an old Electronics Gaming Monthly went, "I was moving to a new house and I thought to myself -- this is just like in the Sims! And then I realized I was comparing my life to a game that simulated life." Why this came to mind, we shall never know. Anyway, Electronic Arts is starting to focus more on the female demographic with their games. At least, they want to.To quote EA's David Gardner, "They don't want 'pink games'. They are not trying to play girly games where Paris Hilton and Britney Spears go shopping and put make-up on." Do those two really go shopping together? Not important. His plan to get girls into games? Make more games about relationships, about chatting. Like the Sims, basically. Oh, not to mention the pink PS2 being released in the coming months. Isn't it just cute? You want to pack it up in a purse with your tiny dog and like, totally go shopping with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, right? Lame. Stop trying to separate girls from guys like this. It can't work... can it?

I can't say that it would really sell better, but there is always the possibility. More and more people, girls included, are getting in on video games and if the Pink RAZR was any indication, the colour of an electronic gadget can be a very big deal.
For most people this is targeted at, most likely teens and younger, I don't see it as being too exciting. The PS2 may be well known, but it's not the new hotness in the gaming world.
If a pink Xbox 360 were released however, then that would probably draw in some femme buyers.
I think the pink only works on new stuff, because in the world of fashion you can't be behind the times.

My girlfriend plays Dead Rising all the time... and she'd love a pink 360/PS2/DS Lite. Actually she IS getting a pink DS Lite. Lik-Sang FTW!
But anyways, gamers that like pink cute shit don't necessarily want to play Barbie games.
Hell, Maria is better at Super Smash Bros. Melee than me, and pretty damn good at Street Fighter II as well!
Far from a girly girl.

@ Nick James -- kudos to you! You're very lucky, in my opinion. The last girlfriend that impressed me like that borrowed and beat both Lunar: Silver Star Story and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue... we broke up in the middle of Final Fantasy 8. Wonder why...

My sister and I are not the hardcore type of gamers but we really love to have those pink ps2...it would match our pink motorola L6 cellphones. :)

Yeah I suppose I am rather lucky, because.. well, how many guys have a girlfriend who just wants to sit around and play video games all day with their boyfriend? Among.. other.. things. Heh heh.
On an unrelated note, I don't like the fact that the buttons on the controller are still black. They should be the same shade of white as the controller cables, with the coloring of the face buttons in pink.
Erm.
