Gran Turismo producer flatters -- PS3 blushes, overheats
A new site has opened up in Japan called PlayBeyond. Think of it as a site for the PS3, where some of the biggest game talents have lengthy interviews about the new console and pretty much flatter the heck out of it. While IGN did a good job of summing up the interview with Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi, we can at least tell you what each nine-minute segment is about.- Graphics (resolution jump, HD) will surprise gamers with finished products
- Real life physics can be worked into games, along with hundreds of bystanders watching a race
- Online network or networking... will turn into something new the whole world can understand and get in on
- Viewable distance -- able to see hundreds of meters ahead in a race now instead of thirty or so
- Gran Turismo will change and evolve, sending new car data across the network almost daily
- Not only able to race against others over the network, a community of sorts will form
- PS3 as a television revolution, changing what is meant when we ask "what's on tv?"
- Games and movies are on equal ground with the PS3 -- no more excuses of "it's just a game"... finer details and programming are necessary. (So this weeds out the shoddy games? Hmm.)
- Yamauchi closes by saying he wishes to change the world with his games and the PS3 is the tool to cause such a revolution
Wow! Now that's flattery. We'll have to see how Gran Turismo's latest incarnation turns out and if any of these points are realized. Surely some will, but a revolution? Wasn't there another system claiming to be a "Revolution"? That's different, but hey. Check out the story on IGN if you want a little more detail on any of the points, though there's not too much else to scrape from it unless you understand Japanese and watch the PlayBeyond interview.

You forgot..
10. Yamauchi promises the game will play just as boring as the video looked at E3.

you also forgot to mention that forza2 will come out this year unlike gt"4 in hd" that will take 2 more years and will be getting delayed

Thats a lot of stuff the "network" does. I'll bet its all free as well...we know Sony wouldn't change their mind. Now would they?
theburn16 @ Aug 31st 2006 3:26PM
geez, i guess the 360 must not have any good games because everyone that has one is always on here bashing a system and its games that they haven't even played. man, get a life
ffaljka @ Aug 31st 2006 4:15PM
wow suprisingly no ones been lured in to bash the last part of the title. At first i thought the article might have had a notion of heating problems somehow, but its all flattery. Way to put a negitive lure on yet another ps3 article, oh and the sarcasm is just the same as always. What happend to unbiased journalizm?

I bet he forgot such advanced features as real time weapon change. RIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAAAACER! Sorry I couldn't resist.
Seriously though everything that he said you could substitute Playstation 3 for Xbox 360 and GT for PGR3. Viewable distance increase, got it in PGR3. Hundreds of spectators, yup PGR3. Community... Got it.
theburn16 @ Aug 31st 2006 3:54PM
except in pgr3 you dont have real life physics...not even close. that's why pgr3 will never be in the same class as any gran turismo game
tacolibre @ Aug 31st 2006 3:58PM
Yeah all of this has been done already in PGR3...not to mention all of the greatness that Forza 2 will be.
Sounds like they are few years late to the party if they were to release such a game today...but who knows when we'll actually see this game.

There is a reason why people buy Gran Turismo and not other racing games. Gran Turismo has more time put into the game to make it the most realistic racing game on any platform. Any game that lets me adjust the camber, braking bias, and ride height of my car to better allow me to engage in power oversteer and pull it off with realistic physics is worth my (nonexistent) money. It's probably also worth the wait.

TO #8..
The website is called PS3FANBOY. This is as biased as you can get

Does this mean that the PS3 will finally bring AI to the GT series? So far there's been four games in the series and abosultely none, nada, zip, zero AI in any of the games. It's GT's only shortcoming, but it's a huge problem.

I normally don't comment on stuff like this...but here goes. PGR3 is meant to be a more arcade like racer. Forza 2 will be the "driving simulator". When talking about HD graphics, viewing distance, and online communities, there is no need to be comparing "real life physics." This could apply to ANY game that allows for HD grahpics, and long viewing distances (most of the 360 games) So, when comparing racing games, it would be best to compare both "driving simulators" And..since neither of them are released yet, I'll just wait until 2007-2008 when it's released to compare it to forza 2.

#12, i agree. but all the people making post above said that "everything" mentioned in the interview was already available in pgr3 and it just simply isn't true

Good point! Still like comparing apples to oranges (but you weren't the first to compare!) I enjoy any game I can get my hands on. so when I get a PS3, I'll have to pick up GT(insert number here) (not sure if it'll be 5 or 4 HD or whatever it is) and also pick up forza 2 for my 360. Then i'll be able to compare. I'm sure I'll like both of them though! but which one will let me drive my 1998 ford contour?? that's the one i'll like best!!!!!
