PS3 pre-order patrol
After the fiasco that was the Xbox 360 launch, it appears that retailers are being very cautious with their PS3 pre-order plans. But, as we get down to the wire for release day, you can be sure that many stores will be motivated While there is one site that says it is searching the web for pre-order information in real-time, that still leaves a lot of questions unanswered for anxious fanboys? When? How? What about brick-n-mortar stores? We're looking for any hints, speculation or official information regarding any retailer's PS3 launch plans. It's hard to believe that no one who reads this site doesn't work for GameSpot or Best Buy or Amazon or Toys R Us or any of the other dozen places that will be receiveing intial shipments of the PS3 come Novemeber. Use the comments section below to share your info.
You are now an honorary member of the PS3 Fanboy Pre-Order Patrol. Congrats!

My ps3's been ordered since january. Try going to a local shop that you know are reliable and ask, chances are they have 'interested in' book, which is just a pre order book in all but name.

I have a PS3 on preorder at FYE since about 2 months ago. I'm 15th on the list so hopefully i'll be $550 poorer on November 17th.

..... you know what gets me? the sony store up here north of seattle (just beyond marysville for those of you around,...) isn't taking preorders and after talking to them, they think they wont get any at launch. IT'S THE "SONY" STORE! all those huge 60" sxrd and bravia flat panels and HDMI switching home audio recievers and they refuse to toss 10 or 20 to the store best equiped to show them off?
this also happened last year at the launch of the psp. took them forever to get some in, and the psp launched with 1 mil and only sold half that week one.
the ps3 fanboy in me will be going to any store possible, but the sony fanboy in me is very dissipointed.

I asked specifically about pre-ordering at Best Buy. A guy that worked there told me "Best Buy does not take pre-orders on anything."

I hate pre-orders. This is one of the reasons I no longer visit GameStop. They had zero 360es to sell on launch day, because they were all pre-sold. And they had no sign on the door stating this fact.
At least Best Buy and Circuit City were upfront with quantities listed on a sign in the window and they even went to far as to pass out vouchers to those waiting in line.

Although the post said gamespot instead of gamestop, I'll respond to the call! =p
Pre-order ps3 games and get on the calling list for pre-ordering ps3 systems as soon as we find out we can, that's the deal, at least at the GS I work for...
*This is probably because of the shortage, such as the 360 shortage when that came out.... expect the same rip off prices on Ebay!

I'm starting work for Gamestation on Wednesday so hopefully by Saturday I'll be all trained up and know what they have planned so I'll drop any info back here then :)
coolbreeze06 @ Sep 10th 2006 8:46AM
My local EB games said they would start pre-orders sometime in October.
Caramella Bongo ... how are you today? @ Sep 10th 2006 12:06PM
Im going to put in 2 or 3 pre-orders at 2 or 3 locations; Ill keep one and eBay the other two. Hopefully, the profit i get will pay for the one system that i do keep. Am i wrong for doing this?
alienclay @ Sep 10th 2006 4:53PM
as a gamer,
yes. yes you are wrong. slap yo' self
as an entrepenuer in a free market economy,
more power to you.
(i'm goina to try the same thing, if i can convince the wife. she thinks it's unethical)
tom @ Sep 10th 2006 6:37PM
Yeah, it's unethical. I think Sony should just sell 'em on ebay. that would be a TRUE free-market for the things.
Will @ Sep 10th 2006 6:39PM
I keep an eye on www.ps3preorder.net - no sign of any US preorders on there yet though.
Rane @ Sep 11th 2006 6:31PM
Gamestop will sell pre-orders no matter how many consoles they think they are getting. DO NOT PRE-ORDER THROUGH GAMESTOP IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT A CONSOLE.
