Sandra Lee's awfully stupid list of reasons not to buy a PSP
I'm assuming that Associated Content is a website that wants to sound like a reputable news source, considering how similar it may appear to the Associated Press. However, a recent article by Sandra Lee called "Ten Reasons Why You Should Not Buy a PSP" shows that this site is as credible as The National Enquirer. Yuck. Here are some of her absolutely stupid reasons not to buy a PSP:- "The screen is tiny relative to the detail of the games you're playing." What was she doing? Playing with a Game Boy Micro? The PSP's screen is the largest of a handheld that I can remember.
- "The screen gets marked up very easily and is prone to scratching." Once again, what the hell is she doing with the system? Throwing it into the laundry?
- "None of your current PlayStation games will work." NO DUH. Sony never promised you could just throw DVDs in there. How huge would the system be if you could play your current PS2 games? If this happened, Sandra Lee would probably write an article complaining the system is too big.
- "The unit is too small and there are too many buttons spaced closely together for an adult to play without getting aggravated... at least buy the PSP accessory kit that includes a magnifying glass (to enlarge that small screen)"
This article has angered me so much that I'm starting the official PSP Fanboy Hates Sandra Lee campaign. As part of this campaign, I'm encouraging you to write a letter to Sandra Lee, noting some of the errors of judgement you may have found in her article. Please, try to sound a bit educated when you write, so that she doesn't write another story entitled "PSP fanboys don't know how to write," because that would suck.

Who is Sandra Lee? That site was too ugly to look at for more than 5 seconds, so I just voted 1 star.
xorzisten @ Sep 10th 2006 6:28PM
Asking sandra lee to review the psp, is like asking chuck norris to review Cocking Mama. And he problaly wouldnt like it.
Claudius @ Sep 10th 2006 6:32PM
This is just another attempt to make a dime or two by creating "polemic" content for a website like Assosiatedcontent.com.
If there's anything useful to do here it's not visiting the website.
Remeber this?

Let's not be part of that game. It's not like she's actually gonna make people change their mind (I hope).
HM @ Sep 10th 2006 6:33PM
How very mature of you. Once again, PSP Fanboy demonstrates that it lacks any semblance of professionalism.
Do all us PSP fans a favor and start acting like a grown up instead of a 14 year old noob waiting for his balls to drop. Oh, and a little professionalism, quality journalism and neutral point of view reporting goes a long way.
MrD @ Sep 10th 2006 7:06PM
Well, I think you may have mixed up the first point (that you listed). Screen size relative to the detail doesn't mean the same thing as screen size. Not that it means she's right or anything, just clarifying.
With that said, she's just another idiot who's trying to make money off a hot-topic internet issue. It's no "6 pounds plus gravity," though.
Silver R. Wolfe @ Sep 10th 2006 7:15PM
Yes, because PSP Video 9 costs a ton of money and you have to buy all the games brand new for $40. Oh, that and apparently a 256mb stick costs $40 even though 1gb sticks sell for $30.
Sandra Lee, I'm so glad you saved me from getting a PSP. Your amazing knowledge and insight proved invaluable. Except, I can't play my PS2 games on that low-end Dell laptop either.
And @ HM, PSP Fanboy isn't aimed at being a super professional site. It's a blog and I honestly don't see what was so immature here. They brought to attention a list that blatantly slanders the PSP and uses false information. The choice of words wasn't always the greatest, but hey, we're all friends here.
Last time I checked, DS Fanboy and Joystiq themselves aren't any more professional than this.
Tequila Mockingbird @ Sep 11th 2006 4:36PM
I loled at this...bahahaha, i have yet to get a scratch on my PSP, and I have had it since the day it was out...well...and then it broke and well i got a free refurbished one + 40 bucks...it had a miniscule chip on the corner but thats it. No scratches whatsoever
johnny @ Sep 10th 2006 9:42PM
nd frankly, for what Sony is charging for the privilege to play Gran Turismo and other games in the car, the back of a lecture hall or even the great outdoors, I think you’re better off without it.
I want to plkay grand turismo in the car!
capt. castellanos @ Sep 10th 2006 11:22PM
okay, i'm not huge on the psp. but that was the dumbest reveiw ever.
i think she just TOO hardcore of a nintendo or microsoft fan.
which is never good.
OrangeTimer @ Sep 10th 2006 11:54PM
@ HM
I second that.
If you're going to call youself a journalist Andrew Yoon you should act like one. It's good that you're reporting poor journalism on the internet but you shouldn't compromise you intergrity while you're at it.
pixelator @ Sep 11th 2006 12:31AM
12 & 6: This is PSP Fanboy, and this article is of interest to the fanboys. A fanboy blog site isn't the same as a 'news journal' and I don't recall Andrew calling himself a 'journalist'.
This woman is an ignorant twit. The article misinformative. The blogs on this site are about the fanboy side of PSP news, not just straight PSP news. What the f*ck have either of you two jokers ever done for PSP fandom other than act as self-appointed journalism experts?
Give the bimbo her low rating, send her emails telling her how ignorant she is and continue to fight the good fight against the tremendous BS campaign being spread by the Sony/PSP haters, I say. In that sense, I think the guys @ PSP Fanboy are doing us and the PSP a tremendous service by finding stuff like this.
genettic @ Sep 11th 2006 2:35AM
I wrote this comment to Sandra on her profile:
"It's nothing personal, Sandra, but I'd advise that you write some more informed, logical, and fair articles next time, lest you incur the wrath of the savvy (er, that is, for the most part) and dedicated gaming masses (or whatever masses apply). You're going to get probably alot of hurtful commentary and not make a whole lot of freinds. Not that making freinds is the point of journalism, but really, if you can avoid making enemies without lying through your teeth, or being a sycophant, it's probably ideal."
I think that's a fair comment if you ask me.
NDS Fan @ Sep 11th 2006 3:47AM
I just want to say that I am a big NDS player and having said that even I can see an unfair/biased shot taken at the PSP. So I read this lady's "list" and find that I can't get 2 reasons down on the list with out wanting to smash her face in. Half the things she complains about can be applied, TO ANY FREAKING PORTABLE SYSTEM!!!! Is this lady from some alternate reality or something where PORTABLE game systems are big enough to be able to play regular games yet still be PORTABLE??? A trained monkey can see that the psp has one of the biggest, brightest, most beautiful screens for a handgeld system out on the market to date, and perhaps even in future endevours to. Not even DS fans like me can argue against that. And although at the time, the expenisve mem sticks did turn me off to the PSP, I aknowledge the fact that all systems have peripheries that cost extra money and making that an issue for buying a game system is not nearly as important as she thinks it is, or wants it to be. I just hope this lady doesnt go on to applaude the DS as I believe her associating her name with a system I like is a slap in the face to handheld gamers everywhere. >:(

lol...so true
SuicideNinja @ Sep 11th 2006 1:44PM
Her reasoning is poor. I agree with her on some points, although my reasonings are different.
The screen is small compared to a laptop or home television. It is hardly a replacement for a portable DVD player. But could Sony have made it any bigger?
Japan has the right idea with $10 or less UMDs. We need to see that type of pricing worldwide, because UMDs aren't worth any more than that.
The screen contrast isn't the problem. The slow refresh rate is. It's a great screen when animation/movement isn't involved; great color.
Sony is ripping us off. I'm glad memory stick duos have decreased in price, but everything besides 2-4GB is a waste of time unless you don't use the fanboy-touted features. We should have been using SD memory in the first place.
As far as the buttons are concerned, she must be talking about the option buttons along the bottom. The play buttons are fine, although the d-pad seems a bit too sunk in.
Well, it's apparent that she has absolutely no idea what she's talking about.
la @ Sep 11th 2006 1:18PM
Yes sandra we know it sucks just like your writing. Fair trade huh? Only differance i can find is at least the PSP is entertaining. Whoa I just realised something I made a promise to myself not to answer back to idiots as you clearly are jeez now I have to read your stupid article untill my eyes bleed. DAMN YOU SYURPY LEE DAMN YOU TO having some sort of common sense and I hope it hurts too.
Joel @ Sep 11th 2006 1:43PM
H8 for sandra lee!!
Kio @ Sep 11th 2006 9:49PM
I'm a DS Fanboy and i like to check all the other blog sites from time to time... and this article obviously interested me.
Upon reading the article by Sandra Lee... i have to agree with you. Utterly stupid and narrow minded with no *real* "valid" points. What the HELL was she playing?
It can't have a been a PSP... either THAT or she is mentally lacking an understanding of the video games industry and living in her own fantasy world where DVDs magically shrink as you insert them into your PSP.

aadhu @ Sep 12th 2006 8:54AM
who is she actually?
pixelator @ Sep 12th 2006 8:56PM
"Sony is ripping us off. I'm glad memory stick duos have decreased in price..."
Memsticks once were high, but PRO Duo pricing is right in line with everything else, these days.
"but everything besides 2-4GB is a waste of time unless you don't use the fanboy-touted features. We should have been using SD memory in the first place."
I can fit 3 high bitrate movies onto one 1GB memory stick. You don't HAVE to have 2GB or better to enjoy films.
"Well, it's apparent that she has absolutely no idea what she's talking about."
First thing I've agreed with you on, yet. Might want to take a dose of your own advice, tho.
genettic @ Sep 13th 2006 2:32AM
HAHAHAHAHA. Wow. Sandra Lee has thus been flooded with comments from around the globe shaming her on her ignorance. Oh boy. I have to admit, I wouldn't really want to be her right now. But, it would be nice if most of the people commenting on her article could actually read and write English (or at least be able to make sense). It kind of defeats the purpose and makes teh g4mers look stupider.
