Is Oblivion really the secret PS3 launch title?
It's time to overanalyze! Even though the chances have ramped up to about 84% on Oblivion being an unannounced PS3 launch title, there's still a little possibility that it's something else entirely. Where did that percentage come from? The abyss of percentage creation. Now then, when we leaked the news of a super secret PS3 title, the only real clues we had to go by were "five words", "that you've not heard of," and "won't hear about" until the Official Playstation Magazine's November issue. A lot of sources are reporting the leak of Oblivion being a launch title. From the clues given to us, how many of the criteria does it meet? Well, we've heard of the game before. We're hearing about it now, and this certainly isn't November. Five words... well, unless roman numerals and numbers are now counted as words... no. The last part is very technical and we could argue circles around it, but for the sake of argument, let's not count numbers as words unless they are explicitly spelled out. Thus: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion does not meet any of the criteria in this overanalytical, technical evaluation. If this hypothesis rings true, what could it spell? Two more launch titles, really. We've gathered enough info to call Oblivion a launch title, but is it the launch title? Rumors are rumors, and this is only speculation until November, but why would Sony care so much about keeping a game secret that is not only popular, but has been released for several months on PC and XBox360? Exclusivity? That's hardly reason enough. Sony systems hardly ever cater to an RPG market aside from the JRPG side, so why would they hide something they usually don't care much for? Even though many will disagree, let's keep the guessing game going -- should Oblivion not be the secret title, what else could it be?

oblivion already sold more than a million copies on Xbox 360, and probably a good bunch for PC (even when the price is cut in half and you get a better experience). The point is, if anyone wanted to play oblivion, chances are they already did. If somebody hasn't and is planning on buying a PS3, and wants to play Oblivion, this should be good news to them, but only if it has extra content or if it costs 30 bucks on launch day (unlikely?).
Anyway, aside from the obvious things, if this is really the "surprise", which I doubt because as you said, the game's been out for a while, then I'm unimpressed.

FFVII?

That would only be three words.
And The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is five words you guys. IV = Four. Four = word.
So it meets one criteria. My bet is that it's just going to be a run of the mill title.

All I can say is that this better not be an another issue of game sites/companies over-hyping a mediocre announcement. Joystiq, I am looking at you too.
God forbid that it ends up being something like SpongeBob Squarepants: Lights, Camera, Pants. We will see every fanboy in existence come out of the closet to bash Sony then.
If it isn't Oblivion, we can only hope that it is still a great game that people will want. - And no, Fantavision 2 is not a game people will buy a system for.

Ah, I thought it was 5 letters and not words.

Any Final Fantasy title falls knee deep into the "Too good to be true" catagory.

Oblivion would be nice, just doesnt sound like a game I'd spend massive amounts to buy a 360 or change my computer.

It's obviously going to be the as yet non-officially titled game that Naughty Dog are working on. They're Sony, we've only been shown a little, and they know the guys at Insomniac, who are also doing a release title. So Snap.

Clip of the 1up Yours podcast where they discuss Oblivion not having an expansion for the Xbox 360. In the last part an editor reveals that Oblivion is supposed to be a launch title for the PS3.

It will be interested to compare the two consoles and how they look. Although Bethesda has had a longer time now to tweak and polish the PS3 version so, it will probably look better than the 360 version, maybe. Sounds like a good PS3 launch!
