Virtua Tennis hits 1080p

The second game to boast 1080p capabilities has been named: Virtua Tennis 3 from Sega (the first 1080p game announced was Gran Turismo HD). While it's difficult to actually see any additonal quality in the pictures taken at Segas pre-TGS press conference, we're glad to see more games taking advantage of the PS3s powerful innards. It's no small achievement. Let's hope that more 1080p games are on the horizon.

Insomniac has already stated several times in interviews that Resistance would run at 1080p too... That's why they capped the framerate at 30.

actually Isomniac capped it at 30fps for multiplayer reasons, thats why they have no lag during 40-player matchs. In interveiws, they stated they did hit the 60fps mark and higer with ease, so its not capped for the 1080p reasons, or at least them alone if it truley is an issue.

A PS3 fanboy you are ed. I mean, you don't know that SKATE is yet ANOTHER title, let alone Resistance, not to mention that Kojima also confirmed, in an interview with Wii60.com, ironically, that MGS4 is being pushed to 1080p goodness.
Way to be a fanboy. Somehow images and "flashbacks" of yourself putting links to supposed "info" about Blu-ray, but they come from xbox.com. I also just got a premonition that you write for Xbox 360 fanboy... oh wait, all that has happened.

Why do people keep calling Gran Turismo HD a real game? it is simply a tech demo shown at E3.
theburn16 @ Sep 19th 2006 11:54AM
no, Gran Turismo HD is a game...it's an updated version of Gran Turismo 4 for the ps3. it's supposedly going to be a launch game...we'll see though

*Waits for someone to make the ridiculous claim that 1080p is a higher resolution than 1080i even though they have the same number of scanlines*
*Waits for a 360 fanboy to complain about expensive 1080p TVs or a PS3 fanboy to mock the lack of 1080p support in the 360 even though LCD and plasma screens display only progressive scan (meaning it converts from interlaced already)*
So...

*Waits for someone to not try sounding clever*
And by the way, 1080p is to 1080i what 480p is to 480i. Enough said.

To 7.
Interesting. I would like more detail on that, because that seems like a big jump

Well, why don't you ask Peter Moore? After all, he was once heading the "awesome" dreamcast, where *all games* supported progressive scan. Sounds similar to the fact that *all games* will support 720p and/or 1080i on 360, doesn't it? I mean, if 1080p isn't "worth it", why would 720p and 1080i be worth it?
Anyway, check the sample images here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlace
Look how shitty interlaced looks compared to progressive. And if you think it doesn't really matter, think again. While 1080i looks "good", there's a reason 1080p exists, just as 480p was once "the shit". For a reason sports events look better when watched at 720p instead of 1080i, but movies that aren't fast paced and images will look better 1080i. So, if you don't want to sacrifice resolution for getting the smoothness of progressive scan, there is 1080p. And what would be better than a fast paced action game in the highest resolution, and looking as smooth as possible?
And don't forget... even if you can always "de-interlace", having the content being already de-interlaced is always better. Otherwise we'd be using DVDs with upscalers for high definition movies instead of next-gen formats.
I know you'll say it's too expensive and that almost nobody has 1080p TVs, and that the difference is barely noticeable unless you have a big TV. But hey, there are those of us that actually have, or will soon have, one of those sets... so, if you consider it's a waste for Sony and developers to do that, it's still a waste doing it for 360 on 720p or 1080i. It's just a small segment of the market, but it's a pro and one more reason for high def enthusiasts to get a console (and a reason for gamers to get HDTVs).
On a side note, most gamecubes supported 480p resolution (too bad most games didn't).
