The PS3 boots up
Funny accents aside, the boys at Playstation 3 Magazine (PSM3) have scored big, posting video of an actual PS3 powering up and then loading Motorstorm. The PS3 seems to have skipped the inclusion of a snazzy boot screen... it simply dumps you into the PSP-ish menu system. Boot and load times seem a tad long, but it's not too much more than the current batch of consoles (and nothing like you'd see on an actual PSP). We're looking forward to more clips from the PSM3 team... let's see Motorstorm in action (is this the only game they have?).

Hi, I'm just wondering if we consumers will get the 'shiny verson' of the ps3 coz all the pics that i have seen that are goin to be availiable for us is the 'bland ps3' and not the mouth watering shiny glossed one! Please enlighten me on this issue for my peace of mind! Akz

Was about the same as a 360 load time, mines being fixed so I can't time it right now. I like the menu, very sleek and minimal, nice contrast to the 360 menu that has ads and lots of things going on. One feature I really liked was the ability to see what game is in the tray, something I wish the 360 had, but that's definitely not a deal breaker.

Seemed very bland and boring. It did seem to be slow in loading and response. It is nice to see the game that is in the drive though I think the 360 might get that in an update I think I saw on Major Nelson. I do think Sony needs a Major Nelson to champion the system. The Online System has not been explained well and looks like a hodge podge of other products like Gamespy and Xfire on a per game basis so far plus Sony keeps garnering bad press. I never liked the PSP interface and wish they had done something else with the PS3.
*Sigh*

It's easy to be negative or positive about this.
The PS3 appears to boot in seconds and gaming is a click away.
OK, forget what I said about negative.

The 360 has Ads on bootup? That's even more of a reason not to buy it...

Time it took for the game to boot from the main menu = 7-8 seconds

I saw this video about a week ago, the guys from SCEE UK let PSM3 borrow it for a day, the next day there were plenty of pics and this video up on there website (www.psm3mag.com), then the day after this video was gone because apparently sony didnt want it to be showen in publice yet.
I like the menu, looks simple, sleek and the sound when it starts up is nice to :)

The Ads on the DS dashboard are hardly intrusive, and they are more about what's new on the marketplace.. not for like, burger-king... that's fight night 3. and PS3 is getting that one.

I like the boot up seequence but in its current state its very bland and boring. It looks better on the psp because the screen is small and it doesnt leave a large amount empty space above and below the icons.
Also there are no ads on the 360 dashboard. you have a custom background and selection tabs. The only blade with "ads" is the marketplace blade, and its a small coner of the blade that advertises new demos on the marketplace. So if "F.E.A.R demo now available on market place" is an add, than i welcome the addition with hope for a similar "ads" for Rainbow Six, splinter cell, gears of war, blue dragon, etc.

"7. Time it took for the game to boot from the main menu = 7-8 seconds"
That was the time it took to load the loading screen genius.

I like it. Color is rich and the waiting time to load is jsut okay.

Its magical....

seems a little abrupt. they should have the plastation 3 logo fade out just a half second slower for a little more impact imo. that and i don't like the flash associated with the gui to game trasistion.
little arguments, nothing that really bothers me here. it still looks good.
anyway, it could still change. anyone who had a psp at launch can remember a small change to the psp logo on startup with the first firmware update.
