Only composite cables in the PS3 box -- whatever
There will be some anger here, there will be some apathy. There will probably even be some sadness. Sony isn't bundling their system with any high-def cables... just the standard composites. If you've got S-video cables or component or whatever from your PS2, chances are you can use them on the PS3. Thanks, Multi Out AV interface!Haven't we gone over time and again the limited number of people with HDMI ports and, arguably, HD-TV's? Is it not a safer move to use a connection that every single television has and supports? Yes, it is. No question. If you have HDMI, get HDMI cables if it means that much to you. The people who twist this standard news into a negative light really need to relax. I've got an HDMI connection on my TV and you know what? I don't care. Plunking down some extra cash for the cable is just the price to pay to get the picture quality desired. Oh well. Deal with it. This is just another example of a standard announcement that people will stalk and hunt until it turns into a bad, negative piece of press.

"The latest issue of Famitsu contains a first report on the cables that will be included with the Japanese version of the PS3"
Am i the onlyone thining this only cofirmed for the jap ps3?? im think since they pay less than us they get less?
Frosty22 @ Oct 12th 2006 1:28PM
This is just another example of you only posting positive news about the PS3. Listen... It will be a great system... BUT YOU HAVE TO GET PISSED OFF WHEN THEY SCREW OVER THE CUSTOMERS!!!! Being a Fanboy doesn't mean you bend over and take it up the ass everytime they F*** you! You have to keep these companies accountable to their screwups! Microsoft, Nintendo, AND SONY! Microsoft has f'ed up many a times and when they do I get pissed off! They have built an incredible machine that is built around HD gaming and video. THAT IS WHAT THE SYSTEM IS BUILT FOR! INCLUDE THE F'ING CABLES FOR IT. AND BE PISSED OFF ABOUT IT! geez. I love getting news here... but I'm sick of how you make Sony always look like a Knight in shining armor!
killer_twinkie @ Oct 12th 2006 11:37PM
couldn't they have just done what Microsoft did and put both composite and component on one cable, I mean it is just one extra cord.
Andir2.0 @ Oct 12th 2006 1:38PM
I thought I just read that the cables included have not yet been announced? How is it that Famitsu has this info before Sony released it? I smell BS.
saver23 @ Oct 12th 2006 1:42PM
True that! everyone with the exception of a few morons who by a ps3 will have an hdtv if they dont, use that $600 you're going to spend on a ps3 and get one!
Foppe @ Oct 12th 2006 1:56PM
For 600$ I EXPECT getting both HDMI, Component AND Composite cables included. Once again Sony assrapes us.
They could at least do a combo like what you get when you buy a Xbox 360 Premium.
Sam Genoa @ Oct 12th 2006 2:03PM
This is like Ferrari including all-season Firestone tires as OEM equipment. Completely ridiculous. I mean it would only be half-silly if they included component, but composite for a system built on 1080p makes zero sense. If some fool wants to use their $600 PS3 on a $99 1990s era TV that is their issue, but I'm guessing anyone buying a PS3 has a 720p or 1080i TV. THUMBS DOWN to Sony. Makes me wonder why I should just go buy a $450 XBOX at MicroCenter and bag the PS3 for now.

Hey, if you still need HDMI cables, you should check the prices at sterlingtek.com. Their cables are cheap and high quality. I just got the 15 meter version so that I could run the cable through the wall and mount my screen on the wall. Here's the linky: http://sterlingtek.stores.yahoo.net/hdtvhmdicables.html

@#2 WAAAAAH WAAAAH damn man, go to an electronics store and slap down your milk money for the cables.. not that expensive, already have some myself.
I don't understand why people take such a minuscule thing and blow it out of proportion. You need to take yourself off the cross, build a bridge out of it then GTFOver it!
You know what would be even better? Don't get a PS3! That way millions of other people that truly want one wont get disappointed when they sell out and a waste of skin like you have one in your greasy hands.

#2, you hit the nail on the head!!! Yes I did pre-order my PS3 and I'm VERY happy about it. On the same note though how can anyone defend Sony for a blatent slap in the face to it's fan's. No HD cable??WTF, how do you sell a $600.00 plus system and not supply HD cables?? MS sure did, why not Sony?? here's thr reason, they want to squeez every penny from it's comsumers to make back some of the lost Blu-Ray money....Thanks Sony!!!!
tom @ Oct 12th 2006 3:29PM
Ah, here's what's being forgotten here. With the exception of HDMI, there aren't just cables you have to buy, but rather proprietary "AV PACKS". Sony gets to set the price on those. There's a possibility that you can use the ones from the PS2 on the PS3, but I doubt that. So, even if you don't have an HDTV, and just have Svideo, you get to pony up another $20. And, if you've got composite, there's another chunk of change. Atleast MS included the most common form of HD (And becoming more common in EDTV and SDTV sets): Composite. The other thing that nags is Sony's insistance that the HD era begins when the PS3 ships.
Another quick thought... think it might be hard to get the AV packs like it was to get the VGA adapter for the 360? Is there even going to be a VGA or DVI adapater for the PS3?
Hoopster @ Oct 12th 2006 4:30PM
Its already been reported that the PS3 AV port is the same as the one on PS2...so, save your PS2 cables.
You can always get an HDMI --> DVI cable. ... and its digital all the way unlike VGA --> DVI.
And, if you're so poor that the thought of a $15 hmdi cable is stressing you out, then perhaps gaming shouldnt be a priority in your life.
testerg35 @ Oct 12th 2006 6:12PM
That's all fine if you previously had a PS2, but this would piss off new potential buyers. Its really stupid to push HD this and HD that, then out of the box you get SD.
ORGNORG @ Oct 12th 2006 7:56PM
so the 360 came withh Component A/V cables n it still looks good
Frosty22 @ Oct 12th 2006 9:09PM

I earn my "Milk Money" with a lot of hard work and prefer not to waste it on something that the company should be providing. I'm sorry that I don't live off of a trust fund or still live at home and live off of my parents money. And don't worry, I won't be getting a first generation PS3. I'll wait for them to iron out the many kinks that are sure to be present (they were present in both of the ps3's predecessors).
@ 16
Component can support HD... composite cannot. Sony is shipping the ps3 with composite, not component.
cheese @ Oct 12th 2006 9:33PM
Well, since the component cables from the PS2 will work, that'd be the way to go for most people that already have hdtv's and were playing God of War and Tekken 5 and GT4. I had component cables for Xbox, but when I got my 360, I had to turn around and buy yet another set of cables (since I ended up having to get a Core system). With the PS3 I'll be getting hdmi cables, which are only $15 or so at cablesforless.com Do not buy those overpriced cables at Best Buy or Circuit City!!!
Adam @ Oct 12th 2006 9:48PM
Here is the thing.. why even buy a PS3 if you don't even have a HDTV? For a console that defines itself as the "True High Def Console", why limit yourself to composite cables on a SDTV?
Sony says Blu-ray this, 1080p that.. but then not include the cable to take advantage of that?
Sony gets cheaper by the day
chillski @ Oct 13th 2006 2:56AM
OMG, an hdmi cable costs 10 bucks. get over it, its not a big deal. why would they ship a cable when 95% of there consumers are just gonna be throwing them away, that would be idiotic.
i got an hdmi port on my hd-lcd tv, so i went out and spent ten bucks on a cable and it works great.
RighteousDork @ Oct 13th 2006 5:38PM
Good lord...I hope this is a joke. If I was opening a PS3 and found only composite cables inside, I would be PISSED! Sony is selling a $600 system here. They can afford to throw in decent cables. And who's TV doesn't have component inputs? Any decent TV made in the past 6 years should have them. If your TV doesn't, then the last thing you need to be buying is a PS3.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Oct 14th 2006 5:50AM
S-Video should be minimum, period. How damn expensive is it to split a wire to make a combo cable?
Kildjean @ Oct 14th 2006 9:59PM
Sony is full of Sh** and so is Ken Kutaragi, I sincerely hope he reads these comments. If I am dropping $600 on their "the next gen doesnt start until we start" console, then I expect at least the component cables. HDMI I dont mind but to include the premium console with just composite cables is a stunt to start demostrating all the things they are going to leave hanging with their console. I tell you this is the start of things going wrong. I am only reserviing this console ofor my wife. I am starting to regret doing this.
Chris @ Oct 14th 2006 10:18PM
only composite? damn, I guess I'm out of luck hooking the PS3 up to my 13" super scan black & white tv now. these cheap bastards should include RF for those of us who need it. ;)
