A SIXAXIS alternative [update 1]

If you're not impressed with the new SIXAXIS controller, Nyko is unleashing a new line of controllers that promise to offer something a bit different. Among the more standard features of the so-called "Zero Pads" are wireless connectivity, rechargeable batteries and an included charging cable.
According to GameSpot, the new pads also offer some more exotic features: "The controllers will also feature heat-dissipating aluminum panels (perhaps for those who fondly remember the company's AirFlo line of controllers with built-in fans), backlit face buttons, and three different color schemes."
Personally, I'm praying for a rumble function in the upcoming PS3 version! The PS3 Zero Pad will be hitting stores sometime early next year and will most likely retail for $49.99. Keep in mind the beauty pictured here is for the PS2, not the PS3.

[update: clarified the controller pictured is for the PS2]

What would be the point of Nyco adding rumble, it isnt the controller that decides when to rumble its the games programming.
dudeugotnochanceinhell @ Oct 18th 2006 10:24PM
forget the stupid rumble already.
iceatcs @ Oct 18th 2006 10:42PM
Clay
You forget the important one.
99% of PS/PS2 games will run on PS3. Therefore you cannot use the old dualshock2 because there is no connection.
Shogan @ Oct 18th 2006 10:50PM
I'd pick one up just to have Rumble...

http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/10/17/cmo-to-ship-47-inch-quad-hd-1440p-lcd-in-2007/
"We're barely seeing 1080p content and yet the guys over at Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) have already made plans for a 47-inch Quad high-definition display. Quad HD would dwarf today's 1080p (1,920x1,080) sets with a 3,840x2,160 resolution (1440p)."
Looks like the $ony "Paystation" 3 is already obsolete!
Only 1080p on the P$3?! Microsoft announced today that the Xbox 360 can produce 2880p over a super-hdmi connection. Why would you want to spend over $700 for a P$3 without a hard drive or power cord? I heard that
Motorstorm is being developed by Nazis - why are you buying a racist console you racists?
p.s. is it true that the P$3 uses internet explorer 1.2
and only connects over dial-up? I am telling everyone at my school to boycott $ony.
delerious @ Oct 19th 2006 10:33AM
I think that one of the buttons that is lit in the middle says "VIB." Unless I'm mistaken, that's short for vibration. Anyways, this is a downright sexy controller, but I have no care for it unless it gets made for the 360.
delerious @ Oct 19th 2006 10:37AM
NVM, that one pictured is a PS2 controller. But the link says they're making a 360 variant. w00t
Clay @ Oct 19th 2006 11:18AM
iceatcs, you cant tell me that when you think of a $600 system your worried about rather or not your PS/PS2 games will rumble or not. This whole backward compat thing on any system is lame! After the PS2 was out for a yr i never played a PS game, except maybe FFVII, When Halo 3 comes out on 360, how many people do you think will care if 360 plays xbox 1 games or not (meaning people wont have to play halo 2)
SuicideNinja @ Oct 19th 2006 12:33PM
I'll take it for rumble (if included), nothing more. There has never been a GOOD "dualshock" controller or variant. The d-pad was the only good part on the 1st party controllers, and the 3rd parties always got it wrong. *continual frustrations with those crappy analog sticks...grr...*
Actually, since the PS3 will be getting ports from PC/360 games, I wouldn't be surprised if the "rumble coding" was still embedded. It's just a matter of sending a specific signal telling the motors when to spin. If there are no motors, it shouldn't matter, as the rumble doesn't provide feedback to the console; just to the user.
Rumble isn't important? So you want more input and less feedback? More effort, less results? Sounds like an experience for sure...
B1gC72 @ Oct 19th 2006 12:52PM
yo wtf is milo vanderjack talking about over there? i could have sworn that the PS3 was only $600 and even the $500 version has an included hard drive (an advantage over the 360 imho). if microsoft can update the 360 to 1080p then what makes you think that sony cant update their HD support as well if the time comes. both consoles are ampily equipt for this. and im no HD buff by a long shot but 2880p over super-HDMI? where are you getting your information? im very skeptical this even exist (and again i know next to nothing about HD stuff). and why the hell wouldnt they include a power cord in the box? that has to be by far the stupidest fanboy attempted bashing ive ever heard. please people, there are plenty of aspects of any console that certain people arent going to like, so in turn that leaves plenty of stuff to bash/complain about. my point being, if your going to bash a console you dont have to make stuff up to bash about.

you are dumb.
B1gC72 @ Oct 19th 2006 1:01PM
and futher more, the PS3 doesnt even support dial-up.
and the worst part about all this is.....THIS ALL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TOPIC OF THIS POST.
ok, end rant.
now.....i would love to see rumble on the PS3 but at the same time its not essential. i wouldnt be surprised if sony did eventually include rumble support in the PS3 anyway. we just have to be patient. but also suicideninja is probably right in saying that the rumble code probably wont be removed when games are ported. so the third party guys could possibly have vibration report before long.

#12 - Typical $ony fanboy, can't even admit that Sega has already won the next-next-next-gen console wars with the Sega Omega. EA announced today that the p$3 version of Madden football will not have the Chicago Bears as a playable team - they are exclusive to the Xbox 360 version. Yes the p$3 has a hard drive - but it only holds 64 bytes and can't be erased. $ony's plan is to make money off of the hard drives - you need 4 for metal gear solid, and they're $80 each - doesn't sound like such an advantage now, does it? Does it?!
As to your wildly-speculated claim that the p$3 doesn't support dial-up, Apple (the company that owns $ony) announced that it only reaches speeds comparable to a 28.8 baud modem. That's fine, considering the fact that the maximum storage capacity of a Blu-Gay disc is the same as a UMD - in fact, they're the same thing, just rebranded so you fanboys won't know the difference and you just blindly purchase anything $ony releases anyway.
Try to prove me wrong - everything here is documented on the intrawebs.

At an event in San Francisco on Oct. 19, EA showed a bunch of its titles running on PS3 hardware. The event marked the first time that Madden has been shown (the teams being used, Chicago and Arizona, had an insane Monday Night Football game this week) running on the PlayStation 3.

U STUPID F$%K!
milo vanderjack @ Oct 19th 2006 4:36PM
#18 - OF COURSE 1UP is going to say that - they're a front for Apple/$ony/Halliburton. And even if they were telling the truth about seeing the Bears in Madden, how do you know they weren't watching the Dreamcast version? The p$3 is based on the Dreamcast; of course, with less memory than the Dreamcast and a 1.4" floppy drive. Also, why did $ony announce today that the controller will only have two directions on the joystick (left and right)? Because $ony is going to release an add-on for the z-axis that costs $29.95. It doesn't even matter though, because, the controller has been restricted to only having one button because of the motion sensor. The only action that you can perform in Warhawk is "make dirt." As a Christian, I have no idea why these heathens are forcing our children to go poopy in their moving-picture games. At least the on-line multiplayer is priced out of the range of most americans (16.00/hour, and that does not include a happy ending). Why are you choosing to give your money to these anti-semites?

I think it's safe to say that half the people here can't pick up on sarcasm, are overly defensive of their precious PS3, or both.

I think #4 needs to be slapped, he has no idea what he's talkin about. please. someone slap him. now. Dial-up??? Are you kidding me? C'mon dude. 2880p??? Link please. You have no idea what you are talking about, if you would open your ears, you'd already know that the ps3 uses linux...dude, just leave.
