Sony Gamer's Day reveals new PSP-PS3 details

Sony's Gamer's Day has just wrapped up, and we're learning new details from around the web. Unfortunately, details of new firmware didn't seem to be revealed. Highlights from the event include:
- Demonstration of Remote Play at work: the PS3 started playing the trailer to the upcoming Bond flick Casino Royale. Then, the video was interrupted and then resumed on the PSP. It sounds exactly how it should've worked.
- John Smedley from Sony Online Entertainment demonstrated PSone download functionality (pictured). The games, as expected, can be transferred to your PSP. Mr. Smedley hinted at future PSone emulation on the PLAYSTATION 3 console.
- Downloadable games will $14.99 or less. To compare, N64 Virtual Console games on the Wii will cost about $10, so we're hoping Sony prices the games a little bit lower to be a little bit more competitive.

Actually, the 14.99 was in reference to downloadable games in general, including the PS3 network titles like Blast Factor and flOw. So PSone games probably wont be that high, but that may be more for the new online titles.

Umm, so to download PS1 games for our PSP, we HAVE to have a PS3, or can we get them through Computers as well???
And I guess that they only accept credit card, huh?

You bring up a good question Benjamin. I wish I had an answer for you. I think it would be absolutely horrible idea if Sony didn't allow PSP purchases without a PS3.

I heard Kaz in an interview before TGS saying that you dont have to have a PS3 to download titles for the PSP. Im not sure if you will need a PC instead, or if you can access the store via the PSP, that detail remains to be seen. But I did hear him say you dont need a PS3 to download Psone games for the psp.

I like the movie watching on the PS3 to movie watching on the PSP. I Just think thats hawt. Now when I need to go take a dump, I dont have to pause!! I'm serious btw... this is not sarcasm.
I love how sony was getting negative news 6 months ago, and now its tons of positive news where its vice-versa for nintendo. I guess Karma's a bitch.

FUTURE PSone compatibility? Not full PSone compatibility at launch?
This sounds a bit familar, except it should have been trivial to have a solid PSone emulator in place by now. Very good ones have been produced for the PC without Sony's support.
Ome can only wonder how well they'll manage on PS2 compatibility. Perhaps soon more people will appreciate the difficulty of the BC work on the Xbox 360.

I've also brought this about in many instances. Exactly where will be the PSOne emulator-->PSP be based? On the PSP itself, accessed via Wi-Fi connection? On the PS3 once the PSP is connected? On the PC for download like iTunes and Vongo?
If SONY wants to make a profit off of this emulator, they need to push it to the PC. That's the best way. Or make it easier for PSPers and do it via Wi-Fi.

If the games are really $15, I'm only getting Castlevania SOTN. If you need the ps3 to download them, I'm not getting any.
