Japan gets fewer PS3's than expected... ouch!
It's not the freshest news, but it's not something we should avoid addressing. Recently, Sony announced their initial shipping estimate for Japanese gamers, 100,000 units up to 150,000 units, will be reduced by a significant amount -- only 80,000 units on launch. Those damned blue laser diodes must be very, very tricky to make. Will this transfer over to US numbers? Nothing really on that yet, so let's assume not, since we've practically come to the last few weeks before launch. With that in mind -- some of you may want to pack up some canned food and an electric grill and begin camping out now. Especially if you live in Japan. We at PS3Fanboy do not in any way, shape, or form, envy the torture you will probably go through this November 11. Remember, remember... the... 11th of November.

@ JAKE -- okay, well, for once, I'm not going to be nice because I take great offense to this. If you could, kindly pull your foot out of your rear and prepare to place it in your mouth. The PS3 launches in Japan on November 11th and on the 17th in the U.S. That's pretty common knowledge. Since this post was on a cut for Japan, we're obviously, obviously, obviously, referring to the Japanese launch. Now sit back and enjoy your dessert -- you've just been served a nice slice of humble pie.

Isn't all this hooplah about shortages a bit extreme? Everyone knows that there were the same disasterous results with the launch of the playstation 2, and it still went on to be the best selling console of all time and less than a year after the launch you didn't hear anybody griping about the delayed launch units (except probably shareholders).
chillski @ Nov 1st 2006 4:00AM
lmao, dont worry jake no need to get your panties into a bunch the wii is still going to be released on time.
WTF i dont know why people leave such offensive comments for no reason.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
you all apparently missed the Guy Fawkes reference... perhaps you should see "V for Vendetta"
and yes, as stated the Japanese launch is several days before the U.S launch... we aren't necessarily the center of the universe.

Yeah the PS2 was successful in spite of it's launch problems but when they launched their only competition was the dreamcast and sega had even bigger problems. Sony addressed their problems and got back on track before the xbox and the GC hit the market. Most people agree if either microsoft or nintendo had launched a year earlier sony might not have been able to pull ahead like they have.
The difference today is both the 360 and the Wii will be there to greet the PS3 on the store shelves. Sony's got MAJOR competition right now and blind faith assumptions that just because the PS2 was a huge hit the PS3 will automatically follow isn't going to help them. If that assumption were true the N64 would have sold 100 million.

This is gonna be a heavy blow to Sony, lets see how things pan out over the next few months. And Jake, why bother? Nick was clearly talking about Japan not the US. Have you had your head stuck up your rear end so long that you didn't know that the PS3 launched in Japan a whole... get this 6 days! Before the US? Yes there is a world outside of the States Jake, hopefully one day you'll discover it... on second thoughts the world would be a better place if you locked yourself away in a dark room for the rest of your life with no internet access or contact with the outside or any other life form so you may never harm another person with your stupidity. Now be a good fanboy and get lost.
