How to get your PS3 from Play-Asia
First off, click here. Look at the listings. Look. PS3, add to cart. You know you want to. Let's back up a step for a minute here. Play-Asia has listed 20GB and 60GB PS3's for sale and you know what? The prices are much more understandable than the alternative (eBay... sometimes. Got an interesting story on that in an hour), going for a clean $1000 for the 60GB and $900 for the lower end. If you don't grab the 60GB, you're really wasting money if you ask us. But then again, there's no telling what the inventory is or will be for either. The release date, as should be expected, coincides with the Japanese release, so technically, if you do some crazy overnight air, you could get your PS3 a few days early. Recall that the region encoding nonsense is the same for Japan and the US, so the PS3 units are really the same. At the very least, you can snag an extra SIXAXIS since stores might not get too many in (or else they'll get way too many... not sure yet). This is good news for those of us who couldn't go out and grab a preorder and for those who don't want to camp out the night before. Anyone considering this option?

*Jpn is region 2 and US is region 1 (for DVDs). Pre-PS3 games are also region restricted. Jpn and US PS3 are not the same.

No, I'll be waiting to get my hands on it in store. Of course, I'm not writing up articles on it or trying to impress any of my friends in some feeble attempt to be "cool". I'd just as well wait for my chance, avoid the silly rush and enjoy it when I can. If I get it later, oh well. It's not going to detract from my enjoyment of it.

Should I do this or hold out for sleeping outside of Bestbuy?

I doubt you'd be able to get one from these guys anyway. I think the line for a ps3 in japan or hk is still MASSIVE. All the ones available on Nov 11 would already be sold to people that have reserved wouldn't it?

I plan on staying outside Costco, no need to pay more than the US retail price when I can spend a few hours of time for one.
Where are other people planning on waiting for theirs?

PS3 games are region-free (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/697/697656p1.html), Blu-Ray movies are region coded but Japan and US (and south america) are all in one region (http://www.emedialive.com/articles/readarticle.aspx?articleid=11760#ixa), HOWEVER you'll still be screwed for your ps1/2 games and normal DVDs, so.. up to you, I think I'll stick with waiting at my neighborhood walmart after work ;)

gregori0 - I think what Nick was talking about is that the device itself isn't region specific. You pick your region when you start it, no?

I've read somewhere that Play-Asia is not shipping to Europe because of the whole Lik-Sang thing. Is it true?

I know I have at least one held for me now I am going to try and get a few more to be able to sell to others. Odds are waiting outside would be worth the wait.
I used to work for Sony and trust me there will be a huge shortage lol.
