PS3 manual shows us how to replace HDD and battery

The above picture comes from Sony's "Safety and Support" manual and details replacement of the system's HDD and SIXAXIS controller's battery. Sony has said that when the battery is dead, they'll hook us up with a new one, but the manual shows one how to remove the battery before disposing of the dead controller. Reverse those directions and you have yourself a SIXAXIS that's ready to get back into the trenches.

Even better though, is the directions on how to replace your HDD without voiding warranty! So, if the 60GB HDD isn't cutting the mustard for you, follow the steps in the pictures below and slap a 200GB behemoth into that sucker!

Dosent that just me that you can buy a 20gb version and simply buy a 60gb for cheaper than overall a 60gb PS3 would be?

You know the possiblilities for the ability to get newer harddrives.....

For a chance to get a harddrive that is completly massive....and won't cost you and arm and leg *cough* 360 HDD *cough*....

This is some unexpected news.....but this news I think is the best kind....all you would have to to is make shure that you have the right format...install it into your system...have the ps3 reformat it...down load the updates and bam.....

This news makes me more giddy then a school girl!!!

Only reason why im buying the 60 gig version is wifi and memory card slots but damn a 300 gig harddrive is like 150 now with savings and rebates...... dats alot of music and videoz not to mention homebrew and emulators

The 20gb version does not have built-in WiFi or Memory Card readers. So if you want to use your PSP wit it @ some point, you're gonna have to go with the 60gb i believe.

I wonder if any harddrive will work in it?
If so,then they should put out a version with no HD installed for $400.00 so you could put whatever size you want in it.

Heh, Really there isn't a need to replace the HDD for me as soon as I get one. From what I read, I can use my USB Harddrive/CDROM enclosure and read/copy my files from my 300gb IDE drive. I also can't wait for the full featured Yellow Dog Linux Distro for the PS3 that's being released on the 27th. Oh, the possibilities... I also hope that the music, photo, and video directories are accessible from linux, so I can just transfer files directly from my computer using the SAMBA protocol.
