More PS3 questions you probably wanted answered!
Welcome to our latest installment of PS3 -- Q&A 4 U 2 C. Or PS3Q&A4U2C for short. IGN has their retail unit (ignore my angry fist shake towards the sky) and they've taken time out of their busy schedule to answer some more pressing questions. Let's do the usual... please, continue reading. We've got word that any HDMI cable will work with the PS3. That's good. Anyway, continue reading for news just as cool.Q: Can you copy MP3 files to the hard drive from a data CD or USB stick, or must they be ripped from a CD?
A: Short answer, yes. Long answer, yes.
Q: Are downloads done in the background, or do you have to wait to do anything else as it downloads stuff?
A: Background. You can even listen to a song as you fiddle with other stuff on the system.
Q: Is there a sleep mode?
A: Nope.
Q: Can a bluetooth-enabled cell phone connect to the PS3 to transfer pictures, music, etc?
A: Sadly, no. But we at PS3Fanboy have an itching suspicion that eventually, yes. Japanese phones are way more badass than ours, anyway.
Q: How's the chat system? Multiple people at once?
A: Dunno. IGN hasn't gone online with it yet.
Q: How well does the browser work?
A: Very. You can call up multiple pages at once (think the tab system for Mozilla/FireFox) and the shoulder buttons cycle through them. Cool.
Q: Bluetooth headsets?
A: Quoth IGN: "The PS3 simply couldn't find them when it performed the Bluetooth accessories scan. DAMMIT!"
Q: How's the Playstation store?
A: Still closed. Wait.
Q: Region settings -- can they be changed?
A: Uh, no. IGN tried to play a few Japanese PS1 and PS2 titles, but the system didn't recognize them. As discs, but not as games.
Q: Does the PS3 upscale all games to a single resolution you set in the dashboard?
A: Yep. It uses the resolution you specify.
Q: Can you use a PS2 S-video cable?
A: Yes! You can also use any standard HDMI cable with the system -- go buy those cheapy HDMI's, fellas!
Q: Guitar Hero controller compatibility?
A: Apparently not. That sucks, but you can probably expect either a new controller for the PS3 or a system update to allow the controller to be accepted.
Q: Warranty?
A: 1 year mechanical defect protection. Shibby.
Thanks guys. Hopefully this answers some of the nagging questions you may have, or bring light to something that was still fuzzy. Another installment of PS3Q&A4U2C will probably appear soon.

Does PS3 allow you to play PS2 and PS1 games?
dendo @ Nov 14th 2006 8:12PM

haha, i like you you bastard. I bought a core 360 on release day for 700 bucks from a 13 year old. Shitty, but not as bad as many people. Then I went and spent like 300 bucks upgrading it. Yessir, my 360 was 1000 bucks. How much did you make on your ps3?
skeeter @ Nov 14th 2006 8:49PM
So can you use the xbox360 wireless adaptor for the PS3?, the $500 dollar version obviously not the $600
tristan @ Nov 14th 2006 11:40PM
the parts for the PS3 cost what? $100? the real reason the console is going to cost you $600 is because of the bundled Taladega nights Dvd. man that movie was great! i'd pay at least $600 to see it again. i feel that fans of this movie are being shafted by having to pay $600 just to get a copy early.

All PS3 games, or ALL games (ie PS1 and 2 titles)?
Carnie @ Nov 15th 2006 1:55AM
#8 I would figure that they would take the question to be for all games. I mean I don't think you can get any clearer then ALL GAMES...but none the less that is still a valid quesion...
I believe that sony knows that they are in a race, and thier start point was in a big pile of shit....given the laptop bateries, the problems with some backwards compatablity games *which is less then 4% of the ps2 and the ps1 libary*, not having an amazing launch as far as games go, and the huge price tag of 500-600 + tax and games......that sony will put alot of effort in thier firmware updates and so on....
I feel that sony will come out on top...but it's going to be a long rough ride to get there...lets just hope the fanboys can keep thier faith in sony...

Why does everyone act like the PS3 is so damn expensive? I bought an XBox360 at Gamestop and the receipt after 2 games, was $920.00, that included a headset, and a subscription to online gaming.
I'm getting a PS3, with FREE online gaming, and 2 games, 60gb hard drive, blu-ray player for $812.00 total receipt at gamestop. Not to mention it has a web browser, 802.11 which will work fine with the wifi in my house, and can plug a keyboard and mouse into it.... I can also run a linux build (there's a menu option for "Install Other OS"!) I bet within a week after release somebody will have OS X installed on this puppy. Out of the box you can use nearly any USB device... But add on the linux, and you can do anything you want with the USB input ports.
Woohoo, can't wait to stream HD content to the box!

So you bought an x360 with 2 games and 1 year xbox live for 920?
Most expensive x360: 400
Most expensive games: 140
Most expensive live: 50
Total: 590.

One point on the HDMI cable. The PS3 does not autodetect its AV source after initial boot. That means that if you boot your ps3 for the first time with component cables and then later you want to go HDMI, it will not show a picture. There is a workaround through the interface, resetting the machine, detaching cables and resyncing it with HDMI - but what a pain. Thanks for the customer friendly aprroach Sony.

some guy did the math and it came just under a grand to get a xbox360 with the equivalent quality because you got to buy live every year after you have to buy the hd box deal you have to buy so much stuff just to get what the ps3 has to offer

will there be a ps3 wireless adaptor
david conley @ Nov 28th 2006 10:39PM
