Is Wal*Mart sold out of the PS3 online bundle?
Quite a few of you have sent this in -- the Wal*Mart PS3 bundle. For a meager price of $1,421.98, you can get your hands on a brand new PS3, an extra SIXAXIS, memory card adaptor, your choice of 12 PS3 launch titles, and 2 Blu-ray movies of your choice. Think that's utterly ridiculous? Apparently not. Rumors are that the bundle has sold out -- thus the out of stock warning.But... has it sold out? One could argue that they will say they have none in stock until, well, they're allowed to sell the system. If that is the case, could this price be far too much for any mortal to stomach? Also to question: how many of the PS3's will they be selling in this bundle? All of them? Maybe just the 60GB model? That would be awful. There's not really much more to say about this, so we'll leave further discussion in your hands -- too expensive? Sold out? Not sold out? Only 60GB model? Geez, let's just go camp out at Wal*Mart. Actually, I'll do you one better. I'm going to call the store near me and see what's going on. I'll let you all know what I find out later today.

I ordered one, so yes they are sold out. I will bring back all the forced crap to the B&M store for a refund- just like I did last year with my 360 bundle. Beats sleeping out- I was just at my local circuit city and there were 10 people lined up (wed) for 6 systems. This is way crazy. Looks like Sony did indeed cut the us to 125,000. When do you think that they will fess up? 400,000??? Blah BS

If it was actually sold out, it's probably JUST for the ps3 (and maybe a couple of the good games). Nothing else.

I just did a drive around the area stores on the East side of Columbus, OH.
Best Buy reported having 26.
Target/Meijer/Circuit City had 6 each.
It was pooring down rain and people are waiting outside, except Best Buy and Target where the Police had to tell them to leave.
If you can tell me that people are already waiting for these in the rain, a full 18 hours (midnight) pre-launch day and you still think the PS3 is going to flop, your so far from wrong. I have never seen anyone camping systems at these stores. If it's happening here, it's happening everywhere. Hell, even the DS-lite launch didn't have this many campers. I walked into the store at 11:00 that night and was second in line. I figured I might be able to show up a few hours early to at least one and get a chance. I guess I will be waiting for the second (third, fourth, or fifth) stock! Hell, I may be waiting till Euro-day at this rate.

@4 It's ridiculous to use this launch as a gauge for the future success of the system... I think it's pretty obvious that 75% of those already lined up are doing so to sell it, and those that are there who want to keep it are only there because the sellers started the line, creating a panic. I'd wager that this is the case in every line in the country. Remember those people outside Burbank Best Buy? You think they were there for a system that would bring them personal enjoyment? There is still plenty of opportunity for a flop, especially if this shortage means that the install base of the other systems are picking up the demand slack.

I have to agree with Weymaster. All this does is generate sales for Sony either way. If they sell out to Ebayers, they still sell the units. It's not like it's sitting on the shelf. When people see this on the news, they will take the general impression that this system IS worth the $500-$600 if people are willing to wait for days to get it. It's all about image right now, and like it or not (ebayers or gamers) this is good for Sony.

I don't disagree that it's good for Sony to sell out their 200k units or whatever, cause it obviously is. I'm just saying that it has absolutely no bearing on the long-term success of the PS3. If anything, it's detrimental, cause for every person that doesn't get one at retail this winter who is willing to pay $3000 or whatever on eBay, there are 10 that will just buy a 360 and/or a Wii instead.

Even if there is people in line to sell it, it means that there is demand to buy it even if it costs 2 or 3 more times, they are just not willing to stand in line to get them and have enough money to pay to avoid it.
I think that the launch of this product is going to be a very good case study about how much brand recognition can do for a product.
I'm not saying that Sony is a good or bad brand or if the PS3 is superior or not to other similar products, I'm just saying that I think that Sony will be saved by it's name.

Ummm, wasn't the reaction for the PSP similar? Not sure I would consider that product a success by any means.
I think it's pretty obvious that there will be demand for the 200,000 units that will be available on launch date. The question is, will there be demand for the 1 millionth unit next summer when it finally ships. That remains to be seen and doesn't look good when the cost of a 360 will be cut (or likely be bundled with Halo 3 for the same price) around that same time.

I work at a Bestbuy and I've already played PS3. Now I wouldn't called myself biased but I didn't think the graphics were as great as Xbox 360. Also, the system kept overheating and it would freeze often. As you all know the first bundle of systems ALWAYS have some kind of bugs and are essentially a litmus test. Anyways, I'm going to hold off on getting one until these problems are dealt with because $600 for a system with problems is a lot and who knows when the next batch will come out. Hey Dan.
Gamers can get the 360 NOW! They don't need to wait inline to not get a PS3 just to settle for the 360. I mean, I can see them getting the Wii because it's cheap -- maybe. But if they were in line to get the PS3 that would mean that they were there to get THAT console. Not one they could have gotten months ago.
