Music visualizations in 3.00 kick butt [m]

I captured this quick video of the PSP running music on 3.0 firmware just to show off how impressive and varied they are. This is a feature that I certainly didn't see coming, and it's great to see Sony adding such a valuable tool. You can watch the video above, or download it to your PSP's 100ANV folder here:

Not that bad, some of the user created homebrew such as SimpleAMP and PSIX include really nice visualizations as well.

Pretty Cool, all sony needs to do now is allow them to be used as an actual background theme (especially the 2nd one). BTW the 4th visualization changes colour depending on the colour of your theme

Is that what Lumines sounds like? *shudder* Wow glad I didn't pick it up even ont he cheap. That music is MTV Lite vocoder Cher Britney pop.
Not to piss over your tastes but it ain't exactly Wipeout, Loco Roco or Katamari is it?

That is cool but i would like to see 1 media player for vids and music like wmp. By the way nice psp stand. You should think of getting a patent on that. LOL

I couldn't care less about music visualisation while this eventually meant that they cut the PLAYSTATION-downloads for the 3.0 firmware. DARE YOU SONY and not make the PLAYSTATION-downloads available for europe!

They didn't cut out anything from version 3.0. They said you could download and play PS1 games via your PSP with 3.0 and that is what you can do...if you have a PS3. I am sure they will eventually update to allow straight downloads from the PS Network instead of having to go through the PS3. I wish they would of done it first, but nothing to get angry about. It is just a gaming device, not the end of the world.

The visual displays are nice, though. I hope they allow for the downloading of more.

Also, is anyone else having problems with Ebgames and Gamestop's websites not working?

This is great.. they just need to allow more user created ones, or make their own available for download.
Perhaps in content packs or in updates, or just stand alone?

Sony need to make the animations available as an option for backgrounds.

Sony (if possible) need to get the PSP to multi-task, so you can listen to music while viewing photos/a slideshow and surfing the internet.

If they were going to use this multi-tasking feature, they could bring in the tabs from the browser to the XMB, so you could have one tab as media player, and one as a picture slideshow, so you change the track/fast forward etc without having to leave the photo slideshow.
This could also work for media player and the browser, or perhaps have an inbuilt mini player in the browser, so you don't have to leave the browser to change tracks.

I would like to see an option that, if enabled, you could quit the browser without disconnecting from the network, say if you wanted to do something in the XMB and then go back to the browser, or if you wanted to go onto RSS without disconnecting.
Perhaps it would be better to "minimize" the browser, but instead of minimizing, you can tab out of it.

I would like to see the option to "go to" in the media player, not just for videos.

I would like to see a new button under Network called "Download games" or something, and that would take you straight to the PS1 downloadable games, and demos.

COME ON SONY!! PLEASE!

Oh that's great. Just great.

I'm sure it's fun for a few minutes, but come on. I do use my PSP as a music player, and I guarantee to you that I don't care about trippy visualisations while I'm listening to music on the move.

Downloading more vis? Sure, it would be just like ringtones for mobiles: everybody will buy a couple, but it will quickly be seen as pretty pointless.

I'm a little amazed that Sony didn't come up with this sooner. If you're gonna have the PSP screen sucking electricity while it's playing MP3's, the least you can do is having something interesting appear onscreen. That's one reason I cannot understand the success of the Nintendo DS, because there's no way to turn off the 2nd screen and save battery power. It's wasteful, and really a sign of bad design. At least Sony is finally adressing the issue. Now if only Nintendo would follow suit.

On the first visualization, if you FF or RW it changes to arrows going forward or reverse. Nice little touch.

well i must say listening to that music almost killed me and what about the Other useful features on the psp this thing sucks though who would want to keep lookin at the screen when mp3s r playin you gotta be locked in a dark room with nothin else to do to be doing that sucks big time also hope this gets hacked ! ftw

at#11 You do realize when you close the ds clam shell BOTH screens and the speakers turn off,I don't know where you got the idea that only one screen switches off at.

Finally, a reason to look at my psp when I play mp3's. Normally I lock the psp, put it in my pocket and use the remote when im listening to music. But now, it seems for the time being I will want to look at the new visualizations.

Lovely. As much as the absent PSOne emulator (and not just PS3-PSP, but PC/PSP Internet-PSP) nearly put me in a coma, this is some good news. As SONY makes major software updates, it is also good to improve visuals.

Very nice. Hopefully they'll add more as the firmware updates continue to pour in.
