Sony releases new 3.01 firmware, a day after 3.00
Firmware 3.00 isn't even available on the US website yet, and it looks like there might be a reason for it. 3.01. Gyuh? Yes, in just one day after 3.00's release, Sony has released yet another firmware upgrade: 3.01. It appears Sony somehow discovered a security hole in the firmware hours after the previous major release.If for some crazy reason, you desperately need to have the latest firmware, and remove the possibility of homebrew on your system, set your PSP to run Network Update. Just know that there's no other benefits to running the update other than this security revision.

Maybe updating the firmware every day is their new plan to keep the PSP secure. It's hard to hit a moving target.

zomg t3h borg!
Since I read about this I've been wondering what this supposed hole is all about. Maybe it allows playing unsigned PS1 games, or, I don't know, it's devhookable.

ooo, I turned on my PSP to look at stuff and I said, what the heck, lets see if there is a network update, (I already had 3.00 from yesterday) sure enough, there it is. 3.01. Man, I wanted to send this in. But I was beaten to it. awww. o, well. Ill post 3.02 tomorrow night, how about that?

The official word is that jeanne d'arc which released today runs extremely slow on 3.00 for some reason which they patched up in 3.01.
Really queer , that game forced a firmware update. Since all other games didnt have that problem does it not make Jeanne d'arc responsible for the slow load times? Theres certainly more than what meets the eye...

I wont update it today , untill I really know whats the problem , meybe this is for killing the possibility to play PSone games from PC downloads . Il wait and see ...

Yes... I suggest that no one updates until we confirm what they are fixing... this could be beneficial for homebrew :D
Perhaps (low and behold) they've found out that homebrew works on 3.00, but not 2.8 etc etc... I can't really see a reason why Sony would go on Red alert and release another update straight away UNLESS it was of un-paralleled importance.. and right now I think anti-homebrew is right up there on the list.

Heya there. Since I have two PSPs, I didn't see the problem in updating :-)
After all, I found a bug in one of the 3.0's new features:
The rss-channel timer does not properly work. Theoretically, it shall be possible to set a timer that wakes your PSP from stand-by-mode and then automatically starts downloading your selected podcasts.
This works quite fine up to one step: The psp wakes up at the given time, it starts downloading your files but then, after a few seconds, it goes to sleep again.
I was very disappointed by that because I would have loved that feature and it would have made upgrading not as pointless as it is now. I would've set the timer to 4:00 in the morning to download the x-play and the1upshow video podcasts and would have them ready when I wake up. That'd finally be something worthwhile in regards to RSS. After all, RSS is there to automate things. There's no point in manually having to download them -- there's no difference to a webpage then, is there?
BUT, this is of course not fixed in 3.01. Gnarf. :-(

I'm glad i didn't upgrade yet. I was very tempted to upgrade because i saw the visualizations on the music player but I guess I won't be needing that right now. I'll just wait for a month or two before I finally decide on this one. Sony should have tested it first before they trid to release it. This is very unporfessional.
Terrance @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:40AM
I knew there would be a nother firmware within a week. But not within a day after.
I wont upgrade untill I'm able to play ps1 games on psp. I have 3.00 and am tired of the rushing sony is doing.

if(yourmind->hombrew == yourmind->piracy) getPSP();
else getNDS();
Tom @ Nov 22nd 2006 1:10PM
Matt, what programming language is that and what does "->" mean? Also, I have BOTH a PSP and a DS; no ELSE about it.
I'll upgrade once again. I have v1.5 on my OTHER psp, so I have no qualms upgrading my v2.8 to v3.01
Terrance @ Nov 22nd 2006 2:25PM
if you want homebrew other then ds and psp, get GP2X. uses SD Cards, For $200. Can do alot more then psp or ds.

"what does "->" mean?"
C++ dereference operator. You should check the Thinking in C++ book (available in PDF online), it's really good.

ya right the psp rocks. How many great games are on the GP2X. Homebrew rocks dont get me wrong. Since it's great on the psp so there is no need for a GP2X, I see it like a psp stuck in 1.0 no games just homebrew. with my 2.71SE B" I can play new games old games and even homebrew and with all the great scripting langs even I can make my own games =). Oh and about the memory stick thing, prices are dropping fast wait and see how cheap the 4gbs will be when the 8gbs come out.
PS: my 4gb was $100 - SanDisk Ultra II
