Sony's devs have long time honored habit of writing screenshot checks their bank can't cash. I'll wait to see what the real game looks like.

Off topic but look at this:

oh look!! another cybaby wii fan, sad that his poor little console is fairly pathetic, but happy its a nice big hype monster! yay for trendy!
grow a brain clownboat.
Pulse @ Nov 27th 2006 7:00PM
But its true Sponge, I dunno what the craze is to get the PS3 so early, why not wait, there is little or nothing to pick up at the mo, it will get better, no doubt, but right now, I don't understand why it is so essential to get a PS3 before Xmas :S
Weymaster @ Nov 27th 2006 8:14PM
Doesn't seem to be pre rendered. I hope it looks like that, although I probably won't buy it (not a racing fan).
He dicho.
Ace @ Nov 27th 2006 8:40PM
Pre-rendered, its nothing a ps1 can't do. And no it's not amazing, its dissapointing.
Caramella Bongo ... how are you today? @ Nov 27th 2006 8:55PM
In one of the TGS videos on IGN, it said that it takes them a month to model a single car. They're going to be incredibly realistic and detailed.
Going by the game play footage they've released so far; its most likely that these are in game engine. That they're shooting for 1080p 60fps is freakin' awesomes.
Wii360dsPSPpc @ Nov 27th 2006 9:11PM
Penny-arcade coined an appropriate term a year or so ago...
"Bull-shot"
Until we see it in motion, it's just a pretty picture and frankly no more detailed than what you see when looking at the PGR3 cars in the garage.
Add in that this is Polyphony, I'll believe it when I can buy it at the corner store. Gran Turismo managed to NEVER ARRIVE on the PSP despite absolutely yummy screenshots.

They can't be trusted.
mcr @ Nov 27th 2006 9:24PM
I've played the GT HD demo and I came away pretty disappointed. I guess we're a ways off until the official game launches but the lack of antialiasing during gameplay made for pretty poor visuals and there was nothing about the gameplay itself (it didn't even have analog controls for the throttle or brakes even though the sixaxis has analog triggers) to suggest that there's anything really new to get excited about this game.
Jamaicangmr @ Nov 27th 2006 9:51PM
@ Wii360dsPSPpc
You say remember this is Polyphony as if to suggest that their games have never been graphical benmarks in the past. I would say to you that yes remember this is Polyphony and that name alone give credit to these screens. That and the fact that you can judge from the early images and videos coming up to this point that these images are more likely than not real.
You can also take a look at this newly released video which should better put things into prospective for you.

A next thing,
"Gran Turismo managed to NEVER ARRIVE on the PSP despite absolutely yummy screenshots."
The use of the word "Never" there would indicate that the PSP has gone the way of the Dreamcast without it's promised racer. I don't know how you see but it's too early to say never. Thats just like someone askin you if you've live at that house all your life? How exactly can you answer that your clearly not dead.
ozymandias @ Nov 27th 2006 11:04PM
that is really impressive, but the complete lack of jaggies, and individual reflections on windshield, helmet, visor, and car suggest a target render. But i could be wrong.
Ben Smith @ Nov 28th 2006 2:08AM
@asdf
They don't make 1 car at a time. They probably have a huge team making the cars.
rv65 @ Nov 28th 2006 2:31AM
You all know that this is basically GT5 Prologue.
matjet @ Nov 28th 2006 2:36AM
lol sony can't win.
they show prerendered scenes, people accuse them of using pre rendered cg.
they give actual gameplay, people accuse them of using pre rendered cg.
if they actually make a game look as good as exeryone expect it to, automagically it must be cg.
Wii360dsPSPpc @ Nov 28th 2006 7:12AM
@Jamaicangmr
You proved my point with the video. It's a setup screen and not gameplay. These screenshots are "bull-shots" until Polyphony shows us the same level of detail with a dozen+ cars on the track with AI running.
Jamaicangmr @ Nov 28th 2006 9:26AM
@ Wii360dsPSPpc
I thought your point was that this level of detail was no possilbe in real time? Now you see that it's possible in realtime on actual hardware you want more. Figures, ok as soon as i get it i'll let you have it. The most important thing is it shows a consistancy in quality with the pictures shown. I have no multiple car race video's yet but you'll be the 1st to see it when it comes available.

psfan @ Nov 28th 2006 11:04AM
@ ben smith
You'd still have to be retarded to think it takes a whole year to create one car. You'd have to be the slowest worst modeler who ever lived on the planet earth. It doesn't even take a whole year for Honda to model the body and interior of a car.
Add to that, that most of the models that are used in games like this actually come direct from manufacturers like Honda and that means that they have already started with a base wireframe.
Maybe what they really meant was "over a year's work went into the car models "at the manufacturer's lab before the game developers got it and stripped out the engine parts etc?
Each car takes a year... lol...pleeeeeease.
yimmie @ Nov 28th 2006 12:20PM
Why do I want to drive a Subaru in a racing game anyway? Is that supposed to be fun?
Sonyguy @ Nov 28th 2006 2:27PM
The thing I have learned being a Sony fan is that you have to assume every screenshot is pre-renderd because %99 of the time they are. How many time do we need to get dissapointed when the actual game is released. Dont you remember the discussion when the motorstorm vids came out "oh that has to be in-game" , "no way thats pre-renderd" I would put my money on pre-renderd all the way in this case though
Ciaran @ Nov 28th 2006 2:52PM
If it looks that good I think I will cry.
If it doesn't, I'll get back to playing PGR3 and laugh very hard.
Ciaran Gallagher @ Nov 28th 2006 2:57PM
If you are to compare this with the 360, you'd have to be looking at Forza Motorsport 2 or PGR4...
CK @ Nov 28th 2006 3:05PM
@ #10:mcr
IIRC the GT HD demo was just GT4 photo mode models duct-taped to a PS3 in time for a show. I wouldn't go using that for any reference as to how the actual release will look.
Microdot @ Nov 28th 2006 3:47PM
given the fact that gt4 on the ps2 looked as good or better than anything on the 360 to date as far as racers go... id say it really doesnt matter. just the simple addition of upscaling to hd would push it to a hands down winner... but knowing polyphony, it will be a masterpiece. cant wait to play it.
Naaiif @ Nov 29th 2006 9:33AM
Wow Jamaicangmr, that video was mesmerising, that music was hypnotic lol, my head was slowly getting closer to the screen. Those graphics look real nice though, but IMO it's much more easy to model cars realistically than human models. Looks like the best racing game to date though, but haven't all GT's before this become the best looking racing game to date at that time. I think this game will follow trend.
asdf @ Nov 29th 2006 7:50PM
The first 3 screens where the driver is inside the car are definitely in-game. You can see the letters on the side are a little blurry and pixelated. But the other 3 look pre-rendered to me. I mean, look at big version (also compare them to the first 3 pictures, no where near as detailed), and look closely at the detail of the guy and the headlights. I know PS3 is a powerful system, but there is no way you can achieve such detailed graphics on any system yet. Take my word for it. Environment seems credible though, but could also be touched up a little with photoshop to make a bit more vivid.
To the guy who said that each car is taking a month to make is a complete joke. So if there are 700 cars, multiply it by 1 month and divide by 12. How many years is that son? 58 Years? Ummmm I don't think so.
polishCowboy @ Nov 29th 2006 9:18PM
pgr2 is a joke it is by far one of the worst and boring racer games ever made.
