Dual analog PSP becomes gaming's hottest video
With more than 60,000 views and counting, this video of a PSP modded with two analog sticks, is gaming's hottest video on YouTube. Well, at least according to the Joystiq folks. It makes sense, though: this is the single most wanted feature for a PSP revision. Although this modification won't allow for true analog on the right hand (it's simply replicating the actions of the face buttons), it should feel quite natural for DualShock (and Sixaxis) players. However, as cool as this mod is, I wouldn't want my system to look like that.

I just don't get this. It doesn't work like an analog stick, no games support such a thing and it makes the system even less pocketable.
WHY would anyone go to the trouble of doing this? Of course, I can see why Joystiq is amused by the idea, since it plays into their ongoing snide 'coverage' and eternally negative coverage of the PSP by highlighting its lack of second analog.

All he did was programmed the commands for the analog (up=triangle left=square right=circle down= X). Nothing special really.

I love the idea of the two analog stick, especially cause u can take em off, and then store em in your pocket, spereately from the system. If you were to actually do this, you would most likely need a rubber cover for the holes because otherwise there would be alot of dust in the system.
Love what ya did!

if anyone asked me what the #1 most wanted feature is, i would have said TV OUT! no tvout was the death for umd's,i dont even own a t, i would go out today and buy one if my psp's had tv out. dual analog is kewl tho, if it was supported.

the reason this dual analog PSP mod is so appealing in the PSP mod community is because it tries to correct some of the flaws of the PSP hardware design.
Flaw number 1 = placement/design of the analog nub. its located right below the dpad and is very uncomfortable to use because of the nub design.
Flaw number 2 = only one single analog nub. since there is only one analog nub, the player has to use it along with the face buttons for main game control/movement in FSP games. the face buttons are horrible for game control, mainly because you cant move diagnolly easily. using a dpad or second analog stick is much more easier and comfortable. this is the reason the "stick a coin on the face buttons" mod is so popular within the PSP mod community.
just like this YouTube shows, this PSP mod lets you play FPS games more easily and comfortably. use the left analog mod for camera control, and use the right analog mod for forward/backward/left/right/diagnol movement.
even though the right analog mod is digital (the left one is true analog since it replicates the function of the original analog nub), its still much more comfortable than using four face buttons to move around. and its awesome that you can plug both the analog mod sticks out. kudos to the PSP community for trying to correct the hardware flaws of the PSP.

You know whats funny, this is fake! His right hand is shown in the video but not his left hand that is still doing all the work!

Nice try, KAZ, Nintentroll. Do you get Wii points by trolling the PSP forums?
"even though the analog mod is digital..." --- LOL
"single analog for FSP (sic) games..." --- Yeah, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on N64 really sucked, huh? Face buttons are not that bad, which you'd know if you 1). owned a PSP or 2). ever tried it.
"placement of the analog nub" --- Where would YOU have put it, praytell? Come on, we're all listening.

I like it.
If i ever build up the courage to open my perfectly formed PSP this is the mod that will get done. If you did into it, this is not the only person to have done it (and documented it) the other had wires trailing out of the PSP.
It has been updated further with a better 'mount' for the dual shock stick as-well.
No i'm not the auther or a friend, I just like its look.
Although i'm going to work on making the num better before opening my PSP.
