Ripping Blu-ray movies to the PS3

Blu rayNews is speading like wildfire across the Interwebs that another deathblow has been dealt to the PS3. This time, hackers have successfully ripped a Blu-ray disk to the PS3s harddrive.

I say, so what? Who cares if you're able to rip Blu-ray data to the HDD? And who care if you can burn that data to another disc (which hasn't happened yet)? The issue here is all about actually being able to play that rip or that burn. So far, no news on if anyone has actually played back that ripped data. Getting past Blu-ray encryption is entirely different than ripping some data. Good luck with that in the short-term!

I wouldn't call for the demise of Blu-ray just yet, or place my bets on the availability of "free" Blu-ray movies anytime soon.
