Latest MotorStorm gameplay continues to impress
I can't get enough of MotorStorm. I take a bit of heat for calling this one a PS3 "killer-app," but this new gameplay footage from gametailers.com continues to look superb. So, the question has become "how long can I wait?"
Do I import the game now, sacrificing online multi-player? Or do I forego the sweet, sweet desert roads for a couple of more months so I can kick some fellow fanboy butt online?
Who is waiting, who is importing and who already has it in their greedy little hands?

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I'm waiting to get a ps3. I'm hoping to get one in January. I want it for this and warhawk.

This game really is looking to be one great game and so I can't wait to buy it.
As for other news Bioshock is coming out on the PS3. The News was posted today so thats good news.

I imported it. I just could not wait. It's so much fun to play; very similar to the demo (which I couldn't stop playing) but with many more vehicles and tracks. The tracks have different characteristics, and some have so many different paths that you can basically run a whole race without repeating it. Figuring out which path is best for which vehicle is part of the thinking fun. As fun as it is, it is, however, very spartan; there's no multiplayer, no replay (which is a super shame since you really can't enjoy those crashes while you're playing), no tweaking of vehicles (it doesn't even show you handling characteristics); and the interface is very clunky with longish load times. Basically, you get a bunch of races and some lame demo movies, and that's it. Having said that, it's just so engrossing that the game overcomes those shortcomings, which I would imagine would be fixed for the U.S./European release. I'll probably end up getting the U.S. version too so I can play online.

It definitely looks improved from the demo kiosks. I can't wait to give it a shot. I haven't been following it too closely, will there be multiplayer in the US release? Can't wait for the PS4, I want there to be mud like that prerender :)

They can do mud like that now with Directx10. Directx10 can do a lot of amazing things.
dybot @ Dec 30th 2006 8:43PM
I had high hopes for this game, it turned somewhat less than I hoped but decent nontheless.
@Joe #3. Where do you read that? This magazine has no proof whatsoever. BioShock is EXCLUSIVE for Xbox 360 and Games For Windows.

"They can do mud like that now with Directx10. Directx10 can do a lot of amazing things."
Well that's great news, I was worried about the mud on Directx10, thanks for the update.
Joe @ Dec 30th 2006 9:22PM
dybot did you not look at the link it says it is now confirmed for the PS3. Plus this is from OPM in UK. So why would the official playstation Magazine make this up if it is not true.

I know that this page could be a fake but if it is real this is great news and you can't say it is not.
Tristan @ Dec 30th 2006 9:36PM
Wasn't opm canceled. Or is that the us version.
dybot @ Dec 30th 2006 10:12PM
@Joe #10
It's from the May 2006 issue of OPM, after that it was announced exclusive for Microsoft platforms only.
I'm surprised you didn't notice the magazine displayed ancient screenshots of that game as well as displaying the canceled prototype PS3 controllers. Not something a magazine dedicated to playstation would do.
Just read the forums at the source you posted if you don't believe it and don't spread FUD like this.

And guys what's up with the DirectX 10 discussion going on here, you can easily achieve graphics like this using only DirectX 9 APIs.

I mean in the pre rendered vids that's what we are talking about.

Waiting for a "real" killer app. motorstorm with less than optimal frame-rate doesn't cut it.
The demo i played at the local best buy seemed to be dishing out a consistently strobe-like framerate. It just lacks that smooth framerate look that the racing games on the 360 have. So much for PS3's alleged horsepower.

"MotorStorm will be the next game I will pick up for sure. But is there anything worth getting before then?"
A wii or 360 if you don't have one. Then you'll have access to a bunch of games that actually exist.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Dec 31st 2006 7:14AM
@Josh: Agreed. Nothing less than 60FPS is acceptable for a high-speed racing game.

You'll find a great REVIEW of the Japanese version here:

SowKnee @ Dec 31st 2006 1:27PM
I'm waiting. The reviews I've seen on the Japan version have not been great. I hope there are improvements to the US version. This is one of the games I'm most eager to play.
NeverSage @ Dec 31st 2006 4:47PM
Hm, I'm surprised people still talk about the demo kiosks as if they're running anything close to a current build of the game. The framerate problems have been fixed already. So does anyone know if it's even possible for the ps3 to be able to render mud like in the prerender?
Mama @ Dec 31st 2006 11:59PM
The kiosk comments are for people wanting to hold on to false facts, hoping the game would suck, but it doesnt. Keep dreaming. =)
Ben @ Jan 4th 2007 5:52AM
I live in Tokyo, and Motorstorm was the second PS3 game I bought. Its absolutely engrossing fun; I agree with the comments that the gameplay makes up for the lack of replay, multiplayer etc. On the other hand, I'll probably end up buying the US version as well, for these features. Any chance that Sony will add such features to the Japan release at a later date via download?
