PS3 utterly hacked?!

Has the PS3 been completely compromised? According to several reports, two things may have happened that could put a damper on Sony's New Year plans...
First, according to Maxconsole, a warez group claims to have discovered an exploit that allows the playing of burned PS3 games. They've alledgedly released their first playable rip, Motorstorm. Speculation is that the team uncovered and deciphered the software's encryption keys within the first few sectors of each game. Time will tell if all of this holds true, but, as several people have pointed out, Blu-ray burners and blanks aren't exactly cheap. And downloading gigs of unerypted Blu-ray game content isn't a perfect process for the less patient.
Second, according to our very own Joystiq, the encryption technology behind both Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies, AACS, has been
What does this mean, if anything, for the PS3? The studios? And for gamers? Stay tuned.
[Update: See this update on the issue at our sister site, Xbox360 Fanboy, for additional information on the fine line between "cracked" and "circumvented." Whatever way you slice it, HD-DVD movies are being watched and burned independent of the security precautions currently in place.]

Please see 360Fanboy's update on the AACS issue and stop perpetuating poorly researched foolishness.
AACS has not been 'cracked'.

It wont be long before they create a boot loader that can be launched from a usb HDD instead of a bluray disc similar to the PSP

I'm sure ppl will figure out how to burn BluRay games sooner or later. Sony will follow with a patch, hackers will release another version of whatever it is they will use to circumvent Sony's anti-piracy efforts (custom firmware perhaps) and so on and so forth. For now - it's just cheaper to buy legit games (by the time you buy a BluRay burner and discs to 'backup' the two games currently out actually worth 'backing up'). But in a year or two it will be a more economically interesting proposition. Likely - Sony will learn from Microsoft and shut down 'compromised' systems' access to whatever online services Sony has in the works. Depending how many games worth playing online will be out - it very well may not be worth it to have the ability to play stolen games - if that means one would not be able to play online...

i hope sumbody finds a way to fool/crack the system to play burnt games. (maybe a new HDloader that runs games from a USB flash drive? or a new swapmagic(?) that freezes up the system, then ejects swapmagic and whenever you put the burnt disc in the system, you press the X button and it unfreezes the system)
