Formula One reaches 8,000 sold copies on day... one
Wow, Japan is surprisingly in the mood for racing games. When MotorStorm went up to the top of the sales charts, we should have known that Formula One, released on December 28th, would gobble up its fair share of yen. It did just that, selling around 8,000 copies on its first day -- it's probably crossed the 10,000 mark by now. Our question then becomes: will this translate to positive reviews and decent sales stateside and... Europe-side? Both are already fairly fervent racing fans, but there's been a lot of ho-hum press about the stale Japanese build of MotorStorm and I'm personally not aware of Formula One being a top-seller in recent history in the US. Perhaps it has, but it's not coming to mind. What do you guys think? Is the PS3 becoming the racing console?

More like ps3 is the console that is starving it's users for games and will therefore sell any piece of garbage that looks halfway palatable because there is absolutely nothing else even slightly compelling available for it yet.

this is a sarcastic post right?
10,000 copies is peanuts, they need to sell 500,000 to make a profit..

when there aren't many more than 500k consoles in japan 10k is pretty dang good at this point. ur talking 500k around the world...the game isn't even out here or in europe yet. it wont be that big of a game here, simply bc F1 isn't big in america. it'll blow past the 500k mark though as soon as it's launched elsewhere

thats awful... blue dragon.. a 360 game sold around 80k units on its first day - nearly ten times that of this apparent PS3 "killer-app"

I might be wrong in this, but I don't believe Sony has even bothered to release its F1 series in the US since 2001. That said, they probably will release this one here, since they need all the games they can get. And yeah, 8000 is crap. And the PS3 will never be a racing console simply because the controller is not made for it. The 360 one is MUCH better for racing games. But that's what you get when one company constantly evolves their controllers, making them better at every step, and the other keeps the same basic design for three consoles generations, and it wasn't that great to start with. At least the L2/R2 buttons are better now. They're still not as good as triggers, but better than they have been.

I want them both.
I just bought about 20 games for my 360 in the last 2 weeks. My PS3 is just collecting dust (other than the 60 minutes it took me to complete the GT HD demo).
How about Tekken 5 to tide us over till March or whenever the next game(s) are coming out for PS3?

The PSP and PS2 versions of the game are craptacular (i received them both as review copies a few months ago), so if the PS3 version is the same game (but with better graphics) then don't bother even renting it.
