PC Magazine puts PS3 over Wii

PC Magazine logoIt's a close race to be sure, but the latest issue of PC Magazine has the mighty PS3 edging out the diminutive Wii by half-a-star for the coveted "best new console" title. The PS3 scored a 4.5/5 while the Wii came in with a respectable 4/5.

Putting the PS3 over the top were its "killer gaming performance, Blu-ray player, media card reader, HDMI-out with 1080p" and its ability to work with PS1 and PS2 games. Costing the Wii its precious half-point were "poor graphics" and its lack of DVD playback capabilities.

The bottom-line for PC Magazine was that the PS3 is a hardcore (aka fanboy) gamer's dream while the Wii was a bit more "cute and friendly," catering more to non-gamers and families (aka non-fanboys).
