Sony hates music games: no Traxion or Frequency?
IGN's David Doel recently had a conversation with Harmonix, the development team behind games like Frequency and Guitar Hero. The team proposed a sequel to the fan-favorite Frequency and Amplitude for the PSP, however Sony declined their request. The music game would've been well suited for the PSP, as the excellent gameplay of other music games, like Gitaroo-Man, show. However, to add insult to injury, it appears that the other music game heading to the PSP, Traxion, has also been canned. This music game from LucasArts was supposed to allow players to import their own songs into the game, a "Frequency-killer," as reported by IGN's nixice. He didn't give a reason, but it's sad to see that the music genre seems to be so neglected on our handheld.

This is awful news! I've recently become addicted to PSP music games and have imported several--Taiko, DJ Max, Pump It Up, Parappa, etc. Never had so much fun with my PSP before finding this genre; Gitaroo Man Lives started it all for me.
I was really looking forward to Traxion, and also hoped to get ports of Frequency and Amplitude.
What a downer!

I am not going to lie and say I like Music game but I do know people that do and if there was more Music games on the PSP they would like to buy one. But for only a couple there is no reason they should.

No one actually buys software for the PSP, they simply pirate it - so why should developers make any more PSP software? Expect to see a lot more of stories like this in the coming year...

With the push by Sony to emphasize the PSPs multimedia features: games/video/music/photos (though they often leave out "photos" in their ads... a bad sign) you'd think that music games would be a natural for the system, since they combine those multimedia aspects that makes the PSP so great.
I would *love* to be able to import songs into a music game...

Is there any way to work on Sony with regards to this? They are dropping the ball big time. Some of the most fun games for the PSP are games like Gitaroo Man, LocoRoco, Lumines, etc. Games that are decidedly music-oriented or have fun, bippy soundtracks.

If one doesn't know, Harmonix are also the ones responsible for the Karaoke Revolution series and the coveted Guitar Hero games.
I am a large fan of the music games from Harmonix, including Frequency and Amplitude, and to see that a new title from them won't show up on the PSP is really saddening...
The PSP is a great machine for music games, as seen with the interaction of sound and gameplay with Q! Entertainment's Lumines and Every Extend Extra. I wish Sony sees it the same way as the rest of us do... :(

How do we know Traxion was canned by Sony, or whether it was yet another aborted project within the ranks of LucasArts?
Iliketoshootpeoplesballs @ Jan 8th 2007 4:07PM
Psst. It aint sony's fault that traxion got canned. If you "READ" you'd find this-
