Most anticipated/loved/hated video game movie of all time?
We're just curious for this one. There's been a lot of hullabaloo (nice word choice, huh?) about the upcoming Halo movie, but come on. There's a reason this blogger thinks that movie will be a failure (a cinematic failure, perhaps not a box-office flop... definitely an acting failure) -- Master Chief is behind a reflective mask. How will we know when he's angry? How can he look around without acting like a bird? There will be no acting happening in the film, regardless of CG or not. The action? Maybe it'll be a mind-numbing movie, but really, we need to stop making game to movie adaptations of the action we can get when we play the actual game. With that in mind, there are a few game to movie adaptations that aren't entirely terrible. The original Mortal Kombat movie -- not the second. As far as game-movies go, it's still one of the best. Now's the time for you to give us your thoughts: what's your favorite? What's the worst one, ever? What should there be a movie of (Shadow of the Colossus would be artsy-fartsy at the least)? What should there never, ever, ever be a movie of? Voice your opinion! My least favorite? Either the Mario Brothers movie or Doom.

yeah.. cuz V for Vendetta didnt work because the main actor was behind a mask.. but if a A-list actor will star in Halo (if ever made) Master Cheif will probably not wear the helmet...

I agree, V for Vendetta was great. Emotions could still be felt from Hugo even with the mask.
Mr. Khan @ Jan 8th 2007 5:09PM
Ahh, but the V for Vendetta mask was a humanoid mask (looked like a face)
Master Chief does not have the luxury of a humanoid helmet, so it wouldn't be the same
And i could imagine the movie sucking in the manner of DOOM, over-testosterone charged and completely lacking in the aspects that make a movie great
Cuz i can tell you, Halo multiplayer may be addictive as hell, but i wouldn't touch that campaign mode with a 20 foot pole

The upcoming "Spy Hunter" with The Rock is gonna bite ass.

While not the best movie ever created but still a darn good video game turned movie was Silent Hill. The only other video game turned movie I want to see is Metal Gear!!! Metal Gear is better than 75% of anything Hollywood can muster up so come on Hideo and do all a favor and make the movie already.

To be honest, I liked the Mario Bros. movie, just because it was so weird. It was hilariously bad. :)
I've seen a wide variety of Sonic movies. Now those were all JUST bad.

I loved the first Mortal Kombat movie, except that Christopher Lambert just didn't fit the part of Raiden in my opinion. Resident Evil was great, too, except that I laughed my ass off when the big, bad monster burst into flames.
Double Dragon was the worst ever.
I'd love to see Ultimate Alliance made into a movie. That game rocks!
imokurok @ Jan 9th 2007 12:55PM
I agree. My fave is Mortal Kombat and least is Mario Bros. because it completely failed as a tribute to the games and as a movie in its own right. I also liked the first Tomb Raider movie and the first two acts of Silent Hill. But it's true that overall game movies don't work.
Justin @ Jan 9th 2007 1:04PM
I suppose the best would have to be Mortal Kombat. It really was good for its time.
Resident Evil was good, but it would have been better had it followed the game's story.
Silent Hill was actually pretty decent. I had low expectations though.
Anything by Uwe Boll is, well of coarse sacrilege and should be burned on sight.
darkzero1 @ Jan 9th 2007 2:18PM
Ever hears of a guy called darth vader? We couldn't see his face and he did pretty good...
Josh V @ Jan 9th 2007 6:15PM
Silent Hill is diffently the best game to movie adaption but still didnt come close to the game. Mortal Kombat was eh. Tomb Raider comes in second for best game adaption cuase it stuck pretty much to what the games were. Tomb Raider would be first if I didnt like Silent Hill as a movie itself. Doom and all other movies especially ones by Uwe Boll should have all copies burned.
As for MGS becoming a movie, ONLY if Hideo has a big hand in it like Direct or co direct and if they stick as closly to the MGS (Not MG) story as possible. The number 1 reason why video game movies fail is becuase the writers and directors rather make it their own thing and stray far from the story of the game. If you want a sucessful movie, stick as closly to the game story as possible and everything about the game.
If the Silent Hill movie story was made into the game, it would have sucked becuase its sloppy and to all over the place and to many boring parts to it.
STOP ADDING YOUR OWN THINGS TO THE MOVIES!!!!

Ever heard of a guy called Luke Skywalker? He got to be the hero because we could actually see his face. Master Chief isn't intended to be a villain.

The halo movie is going to suck ass considering the game franchise and microdot suck dick
