A new SIXAXIS charging option

One of my PS3 pet-peeves is the need to hook up your controller to the PS3 via a USB cable for charging. It's a clumsy process. I much prefer the option to use either replaceable standard batteries or detachable rechargeables that can be quick-swapped (and the short cable included with the PS3 for connecting the controller to the system only makes on-the-fly recharging worse).
Looks like the folks at Nyko are taking advantage of the issue. They've just announced what looks to be an elegant solution to our charging woes.
"Once plugged in, the Charge Base is able to store and charge up to 4 SIXAXIS controllers for the PlayStation 3. All 4 controllers will be charged simultaneously through the Mini USB ports, while only requiring 1 wall outlet leaving the PS3 USB ports, free and the console cord free."
Hopefully, this Nyko accessory won't fry stuff.

personally the built in battery is the best feature. and since you can charge the controllers using a USB cable i just connect them to my USB Hub to charge them.

Or don't waste your money and plug them into your computer to charge. Or even your Xbox 360. Anything with a USB port works.

Elegant? ... This thing looks about as elegant as a kick in the nuts. lol
Not having a practical 'on the fly solution' is still a massive issue with the PS3, even with this thing to charge the units.
If you're going to dock your controllers in that thing, you might aswell plug them into the USB and leave them sat over night, or whilst your not gaming.
This thing is as bad at the force feedback steering wheel that didnt do force feedback lol
God how I loathe 3rd party peripherals.

Seems pointless to me since plugging them into the PS3 lets you keep playing while it charges, not to mention the plugging in the PS3 process takes maybe 10 seconds.

i would be happier with a longer usb charge cable

that and the ablity to charge while the console is off.
and another sony usb charge cable with every sixaxis. (can't spring 50cents for one of these things? for shame sony. i like uniformity, not using some gray ugly 2.5 ft cable from my camera.)

My laptop sits on the coffee table in front of me. So I just plug it into my laptop when the battery is low and keep playing. :P

Personally I want this. My PS3 is rack mounted in a home theater and I hate having wires tangling in front of my equipment (I wish Sony had put a USB port on the back of the PS3 for this reason) This provides a simple alternative to having wires all over the place.

i would never buy this. i charge my controller when im downloading something or am on the internet on the PS3. cuase i use a usb mouse and usb keyboard. and the battery last a really long time so having it plugged in for 30 minutes (or however long it takes to charge) is not that bad.

I can't confirm this, but i've heard that you can charge the controllers when the PS3 is in stand-by mode...
