Square Enix surprise: its a PSP port of a GBA port of NES games
It looks like EGM's Rumor Mill is starting to develop into truth. "Square Enix is whipping up a wild lineup for PSP this year ... These guys are serious too! I'm talking new games, remakes of old classics, and an all-new, unexpected Final Fantasy spinoff that will make the fanboys flip."
Well, we can check off "remakes of old classics" off the list: Square Enix just announced their "20th Anniversary Series," which will be heading to PSP. First two games on the table? Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition and Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition. Both games will feature the enhancements of the Nintendo-published Final Fantasy I & II Advance: Dawn of Souls, and also include new CG movies and "further enhancements."
While these aren't the games we've been clamoring for, I guess it's a step in the right direction. Any support from Square Enix is better than none, right? As it stands now, I'd much rather wait for Crisis Core than these remakes of remakes. Hopefully, we'll see the rest of the "wild lineup" that EGM hinted at.

Given that the GBA versions (with loads of extra dungeon time) was recently cleared out of TRU for $9.99 ... they'll have to make these either 2 games on a UMD for standard price or *really* cheap as individuals ...

I want a Parasite Eve I and II remake over these games or even better a Chrono Trigger remake. I would pay some good money for CT. But at least Square Enix is finally making some PSP games.

Well, im guessing these will be cheap. Square Enix is trying to revive their old games to build the FF franchise as a whole. I'd pay $20 for the two games combined, which is probably the top end of what they're considering charging for these two titles. Personally, Im in favor of this.
It might not be Chrono Trigger, but it is a good rpg that they can chunk out fairly fast for little resources. Don't think of this as an "answer to your question" wanting the better titles, think of it as a throw-in freebie while they work on the bigger stuff.

I cant wait to buy both of them, even though I really hate Final Fantasy II. The level-up system for this game sucked.

Or you could see it as a port of the playstation remake, since thats what i think would make the closest match graphically.

At least I could play the GBA versions on my TV without a hassle. GBA Player FTW in this case. Waiting for Crisis Core is still the best option.

These games I wouldn't jump for at $40, but support from Square Enix is never bad for a console that needs help like the PSP does in the US.

Jesus, this AGAIN? We get it - we got it the first time. You prefer to game on a TV. A GBA with TV link is your idea of a better time, despite not knowing about any possible improvements Square might make to this title.
You hate Sony. We get that, too, from your rabid anti-PS3 blogs and always negative PSP comments. Yet still, you act as if your opinion is of interest to those of us who LIKE the PSP and LIKE handheld gaming.
Don't you have _anything_ better to do than tilt at this windmill..?
