Playable Final Fantasy XIII demo coming in third quarter of 2007

Oh my goodness! Did you read the title right? We think you did, because it's true. Gosh, what was the last Final Fantasy demo? Was it for VIII? That was a long, long time ago. Packaged with Brave Fencer Musashi, if memory serves. Oh, nevermind. Final Fantasy XII was packaged with Dragon Quest VIII. Damn! Even so, that was a big gap in itself -- now we're getting a demo for each game, then.

In the latest issue of Dengeki, Square-Enix confirmed the release of a Final Fantasy XIII (not Versus, apparently) demo sometime this year. Sqeenix wants the demo to be finished by E3 2007 -- which is pretty much closed off to the public now. If they want to be very nice, they can release the demo on the PS-Store shortly thereafter. If not, we'll probably see the release of the demo after the Tokyo Game Show 2007. Either way, awesome! No news on it going multiplatform and it's going to stay that way, from the looks of it.

wasn't there Final Fantasy XII demo on the Dragon Quest 8 disk???

My god, I can't believe they're releasing a demo so soon! I wasn't expecting this game to come out til 2008-9 (regardless of their 2007 estimate).

Course they busted out a FF 12 demo a year before the game actually came out, so it could still be a while before we see the whole game.

Either way, getting a demo out will massively drive up interest of the PS3 in japan (and america too). Can't wait!

the reason why FFXII didn't come out sooner was because of internal issues with the director (didn't he suffer breakdown and quit?). they had to replace him, so it delayed the game.

it was worth it.

while i wasn't really expecting FFXIII until 2008, or late, late 2007, this title has been in development for quite a while. it was originally intended to be a Playstation 2 title, but after the team saw the FFVII PS3 tech demo, they scrapped it and started it from scratch (barring the concept) on the Playstation 3. that was roughly 2 years ago. it takes about 2-3 years to make a AAA RPG, so it wouldn't surprise me if they made a 2007 release date, but i wouldn't be surprised if they ultimately delayed it to spring 2008. after all, some of us were waiting for Twilight Princess for the Gamecube for like, 4 years.

besides, there is plenty coming to the PS3 this year (whether it be multi-platform or exclusive), to keep me busy while i wait for FFXIII:

yeah, i think i can wait for Final Fantasy XIII. if the ingame screenshots are any indication, it'll be worth it.
