James Bond to help launch European PS3?
When we first heard the rumor that Talladega Nights would be the Blu-ray pack-in for the North American launch of the PS3, we hoped it was false. It's not that Talladega isn't a good movie, it's just not my first choice as the best movie from Sony's recent theatrical catalog to showcase the full power of Blu-ray and the 1080p HD dream. As it turns out, the rumor was true. Now, we're actually hoping that this new Blu-ray pack-in rumor is on the money too. Chatter in the Blu-ray community suggests that Jame's Bonds latest (and nearly greatest) outing, Casino Royale, will accompany the PS3 on it's big day in Europe.
We're keeping our fingers crossed on this one, but it's still in the "with-a-grain-of-salt" category.

Sony will sell the PS3's regardless of if the movie is packed in or not, i hope they do as i have one on pre order but it not going to make any difference to sales

Hey, that actually sounds like a great pack-in.
I'm all around a Playstation/Sony hater, but I have love for Bond.
Finally they got the message that if they want to pack in a Blu-ray movie, it had better be a movie they give a damn about looking good.

I doubt they'd choose a movie like Casino Royale as a pack-in. I'm nearly certain that, being a big action movie, it was shot in 2.35:1 ratio, which is far wider than widescreen (1.78:1). If Sony wants to promote blu-ray, they're going to want to pack in in with a movie that's in widescreen, so that it fills the screen, since people are likely to be less impressed with the video capabilities of blu-ray if the movie only fills 2/3s of the screen. This is why we ended up with Talladega Nights in North America - it's a 1.78:1 movie. Most people would have expected Spiderman 2, but like Casino Royale, it's 2:35:1. Yes, Sony did pack Spiderman 2 in with the first PSPs, but they cropped the transfer so that it would take up the full widescreen on the PSP.

Great Pack In! I never really understood why Talladega Nights was chosen. Comedy's are NEVER titles used to demo Home Theater AV systems.
Sony should allow all US PS3 owners the chance to trade-up to Casino Royale.
While my HD -DVD library of titles continues to grow... I'm sadly still at sitting at one Title on the Blu-Ray side.

#3: I watched Talladega Nights on regular DVD last night, and it is 2.35:1.

@Brian...
I saw Talledaga Nights...trust me, it isn't a comedy.

#5: Hm, you're right. Odd, because the trailers are all widescreen.

@ Kspraydad: Your right. Talladega Nights isn't just A comedy, it is THE comedy.
