Virtua Fighter 5 goes for the gold!
Yeah, we've been hyping Virtua Fighter 5 rather hard. We're Sega whores (long live the Dreamcast!). Well, the house that Sonic built has sent word that everybody's most anticipated PS3 fighter has gone gold and will see the light of day on February 20. A new PS3 game is on the way! And that's reason enough right there to celebrate. Happy button-mashing.

Having DOA4 on 360 was only relevant once it had a plethora of better games to support it. But, who knows, this might be a foundation for something else. All I know is that this doesn't justify $600 either, and, to date, no combination of PS3 games is capable of that yet. Their added price only makes the PS3 buy-in worse so far.
I suggest that this release has ZERO gaming value, but has immense political value because of Xbox 360's coup.

WOW Diamond Blade..... You are smart!!!! Amazing!!!
Why don't you go have a "hand party" with your 360... if you have one!!!
BklynKid @ Jan 22nd 2007 10:36PM
When is the 360 version coming out?
Caramella Bongo ... how are you today? @ Jan 22nd 2007 10:36PM
Woo, im not a VF fan, but, this should be a hit in Japan where its big in the arcades.
Colin @ Jan 22nd 2007 10:50PM
Diamond Blade,
Well I disagree with you there. There are about 2 million gamers out there with PS3s at this point, and to them alone this has great gaming value.
And the very fact you even mention DOA4 in the same post as VF5 is pretty much horrifying. Why not just compare Mortal Kombat to VF5? DOA is shallow as hell and doesn't have near the fanbase the VF series has (a series also known for its highly technical and polished game mechanics). Sure DOA4 couldn't support the 360, because its an average fighter at best. The VF series has a way larger fanbase of hardcore followers and will attract a lot more attention than the DOA ever would.
This will definitely sell a ton of PS3s. Not as much as Motorstorm or MGS4 or anything like that, but its a highly anticipated game with a huge fanbase being released on a game starved system with 2 million users already.
Sure, it was a great move that the 360 was able to get a release of the game too. But with all the press and advertising focusing on PS3 versions of it and the 360 version not even having a release date yet (Summer 07), you are massively underestimating the significance of this release.

I bought a PS3 just for this game,if I had known it was coming out for the 360, I would have waited.
Ted Nemeth @ Jan 23rd 2007 10:43AM
Good discussion! I think Diamond Blade, Colin and Seiryu all make good points. DOA 4 is a solid fighter, comparing it to Mortal Kombat is unfair. It's just for many fans(myself included) VF is better, so much better that competition pales by comparison. I also bought my PS3 early to play VF but also wanted Blu Ray. For me having a great Blu Ray player and the ability to play games like VF, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear plus guarenteed solid support from my favorite Japanese software developers locked it for me. 360 games are so much better at this point but the system has hardware dependability issues, a crappy HD DVD player and a lukewarm response from Japanese gamers and software developers. I'm confident when Final Fantasy is released 360 fanboys will appreciate how awesome PS3 really is!

I am dissapointed in the game not having online... I would be VERY DISSAPOINTED if Sega decides to "stab sony in the back" if the 360 version will have online...

@Colin
Sony sure may have shipped 2 million PS3s, but no, there are not 2 million PS3 owners. Even if you suggest that 100% of PS3s were sold in the US, Japan releases weekly numbers of console hardware and software sales, and the PS3 is sitting at about 600,000 sold in Japan. The price is too high for the casual gamer. I do think VF5 will move more systems in Japan, but how much, and will it be enough to unseat the Wii or DS Lite in the charts? I suppose we'll see in February.

there is never just one game that makes a gamer buy a console (unless you're an X Box or Nintendo fan, where just the mention of Halo and Mario gets their pants all tight around the groin area).
these are the reasons why i want a PS3:
1) Blu Ray: after seeing movies and games in HD (HD DVD or Blu Ray), i am sold on HD movie and gaming. as it stands, Blu Ray has more support in movies, and the PS3 rolls my two loves (movies and games) into one nice, big black package.
2-13) Games (releasing this year):
Virtua Fighter 5
Motorstorm
Heavenly Sword
Assassin's Creed
Metal Gear Solid 4
Mercenaries 2
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Devil May Cry 4
Lair
White Knight Story
Final Fantasy XIII
Killzone
Resistance: Fall of Man (already out)
see? there are more than just one or two games worth an investment in a Playstation 3. with the exception of Assassin's Creed, the other games are exclusive to the Playstation 3. and i only listed titles that are coming out *THIS* year. for next year, i have:
14 - 21) more games! (for 2008):
Resident Evil 5
Eight Days
Heavy Rain
The Getaway
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Afrika
LA Noire
The Naughty Dog Project
not to mention the kickass multi-platform games i'll be purchasing for my PS3.
i don't have a problem with the 360 (i want one, actually), but, for this year, and the near future, there isn't much for the console i want besides Crackdown, Mass Effect, Bioshock (which i can just get on my PC), and Fable 2.
much like the PS1 and PS2 before it, the PS3 just has more games that interest me. it also means i can put away my PS2 when i get my PS3 next week (granted i can find one; the two major Best Buys that i live near in Los Angeles were sold out) and save space.
