Remember Heavy Rain? No? Here's a reminder... [update 1]

The enormous response from the Heavy Rain trailer really sparked Cage and his crew on to continue creating the title with emotional quality no less than already displayed. What's interesting is they had no intention to show this off -- it was created simply as a test to test how hard the PS3 was to program for. It was never edited, never re-worked. This is a raw, practically from the drawing board, trailer. As such, it's also real-time footage, not a cut-scene. In fact, the game is slated to have no cutscenes. "Also, this trailer is just a real-time non-interactive movie, where the game will be fully interactive, without cut scenes."
Please, keep reading.
Oh, I just like this quote... let me think of a segway. Why hasn't a game displaying rich, detailed emotions been done yet? Sure, some games have tried, but always fall into the Uncanny Valley. Cage responds: "When you try to come up with something really different, they look at you like you are (a) totally nuts, (b) an alien, or, (c) perfectly stupid. You know, 'Why try something different when we could sell so many GTA clones to these stupid teenagers out there?'" This game is the first to step as far away from that cliff as possible (though some like to focus on the one or two imperfections rather than what was acheived... even though the whole lip-synching thing really needs a facelift come round two... but it gets less noticeable at the appropriate times).
If you're wondering what the actual gameplay is going to be like, expect a large, branching non-linear game. It may be similar in some respects to Cage's previous title, Fahrenheit... or as we in the US call it, Indigo Prophecy. There's absolutely no talk of a release date, but we've got to keep bringing this game up, as it will change the generic facial expressions and grunts heard by NPC's for the rest of our lives. Hopefully.
[update: Added the first line. Happy now? =) ]

You forgot to write that the article says that this game is only possible on the PS3. Geez, you're dropping the ball fanboys, I thought that would be in the first sentance!

Why is this game "only possible" on the PS3?
Mat Parker @ Jan 23rd 2007 5:28PM
one question why if this game is only possible on PS3 why do I have in front of me a quote confirming a 360 version?
Colin @ Jan 23rd 2007 5:32PM
Farenheit (or the Indigo Prophecy) was a really amazing game with an intense story. It was more or less a highly stylized adventure game with a couple action parts tossed in, but it was really really fun and unusual.
I'm definitely keeping an eye on this game, just to see this guy's sophmore effort. I love that he's taking a risk and making a game that is unique and outside the standard cookie cutter action game.
We need more devs like this!

The article does not say that it is "only possible" on the PS3. It says "The first step was to secure adequate technology for the challenge, and they found it in PlayStation 3's resources." If you are going to make such a bold statement, be sure to have the correct statement.

Mat Parker,
Why would you mention a quote without including a link? We suppose to just trust your word? ;)
Heavy Rain is listed just as a 'next-generation' game on their own website though, so it could be coming to the 360. They don't even have a publisher yet, so it doesn't look like anything is set in stone yet.
In a post-e3 interview the dude says:
IGN: There has been a lot of speculation since E3 that Heavy Rain will go "PS3 only" because of where it was showed. Any truth to that or can we expect to see it on multiple systems?
Fondaumière: We hear and read a lot of things lately on Heavy Rain. All I can say is: not everything is true and nothing is written in stone as we speak. For now, Quantic Dream is working on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

Not really an outright confirmation that its coming out for the 360, especially since they are working on an Omikrom game that is multi-console. But regardless the game isn't coming out for almost 2 years - so a lot can change.

In case anyone has forgotten... E3 2005... Killzone2... Motorstorm... nuff said. Lets see something actually go from trailer to game and keep the amount of detail. 1080p... oh wait we really meant 720p. Give me a break.

#2--- Let's see that quote. Give me a link.
Pat @ Jan 23rd 2007 5:54PM
That looked awesome in youtube quality(176x166 or something). Imagine that in 1080p.
Ghost @ Jan 23rd 2007 11:04PM
This isn't that good, the voice acting is mediocre and the problem is not the French accent. The mouth movement is horrible.
J @ Jan 23rd 2007 11:18PM
How is this only possible on the PS3? I smell BS. I would think a system that has a more powerful graphics processor and available RAM to handle this game too.
Adam @ Jan 24th 2007 4:03AM
I guess "Only on PS3" means delays, and very little news about the title. Makes sense
Frosty @ Jan 24th 2007 10:47AM
Yeah every quote i see about this games development claims it is being developed for 'Next-Gen SystemSSSSSSSS' (slight emphasis on the plurality).
Tracert @ Jan 24th 2007 3:04PM
If you want to compare, the PC version of Heavy Rain available for download from the Ageia Physx video page:

J:
You were talking about the Xbox 360? Ha. You forget that the PS3's cell makes up for whatever "Shortcoming" the RSX might have... and then some. Besides, Heavy Rain is not just about graphics, dipshit. Oh, and PS3 also has 512 MB of RAM, it doesn't really matter if it's unified or not if you are a good programmer.
By the way, this game would be impossible without Blu-ray and a Hard drive, so even if the 360's GPU-CPU combo was more powerful (which is not), it wouldn't be able to handle it. That's why you don't cripple your console from day one.
