Hot dog! European launch date officially released!
This comes in riding the wave of positive Sony news that's been crashing against the beach of Awesomeland -- we may as well go out and surf right along with it. The ThreeSpeech blog released the Sony press release regarding the European launch and all the latest rumors were true: the date of birth for the PS3 in Europe will be March 23. There will be over 30 launch titles available to grab in tandem with your system. Over one million units will be shipped to Europe. It's also true that the 20GB model will be absent, but if demand merits, will appear at a later date.If you wanna see the launch titles available on launch, read further. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Okay, so, here's the launch games you can pick and choose from:

No Blu-ray movie tie in mentioned in the press release...
Daniel D @ Jan 24th 2007 9:49PM
Dont forget the price lol
£425 = $840
yeah what a great wait we get games that would have been out on the 360 for months and get to pay extra to play them!
-=Porch=- @ Jan 24th 2007 10:27PM
To Daniel D.
Learn some economics please... currency and market doesn't work like that... so take ur fanboy comments back to ur 360 website.
Kspraydad @ Jan 24th 2007 10:43PM
$840 includes your VAT correct?
So vs a typical US purchaser $599 + 6% Sales Tax = $635
840/635 is a 32% Premium
Lets check the other consoles.
XBOX - $399 + 6% Tax = $423USD
You pay 279 Pounds which is 549USD
549/423 is a 30% Premium
Wii $249 + 6% Tax = 264USD
You pay 179 Pounds which is 352USD
352/264 is a 33% Premium
What is your point again?
BTW...here is my source for the average sales tax in the US ( its actually 6.5% not 6% like I used)

Im sure people in Europe will enjoy thier PS3 launch quite a bit more than everyone else now that Sony reprogrammed the OS and fixed the PS2 game graphics bug.
PS3 is THE SYSTEM.Call of duty 3 is amazing to play online. You will want this game. Its better than Day of Defeat Source in my opinion.I cant wait to get Motorstorm. The free demo from the sony store is a blast.Gran Tourismo HD concept 1.1 is a must have download as well.
Yeah the UK gets PS3 later than us in the states but they get it in a lot better shape code wise.

It'll be interesting to see how the system sells when launched with a ton of decent titles.
Colin @ Jan 25th 2007 12:24AM
Kspraydad,
Nice data! Good way to put it in perspective. It's expensive, sure. But EVERYTHING is over there. Yay america! ;)

WHAT?????????????? no football/soccer game on the launch??????? WTF are they thinking......if they had a soccer game in there there would be no doubt the system will sell out across jEwROPE
El Payo @ Jan 25th 2007 2:33AM
Hey PS3'ers, version 1.50 is downloading to my PS3 as I type. Right here in North America. Go and get it.
marco.heykant @ Jan 25th 2007 3:38AM
What is it with game companies and setting europa back. Beside the 30 something procent more we pay, we don't even get a blue ray movie (how much are those going for anyway). After that we get some chewed out games (f.e.a.r? that's 2 years old man...) and not even the choice to pay a bit less for no harddrive. Sony is not doing good...
Still, going to get one for gran turismo.. Damn that kapitalistic system and it's hd goodness
adorna @ Jan 25th 2007 6:13AM
hmm .. I'm not so hyped anymore and I actually have less money to spend so I'll probably wait for the First Final Fantasy before buying anything..
Kspraydad @ Jan 25th 2007 8:09AM
@ Colin...
Don't forget that after exchange you can get the PS3 for $30USD cheaper in Canada than the US (In Alberta at least)...Yay Canada!
Kspraydad @ Jan 25th 2007 8:30AM
So...
How long before Sony just forgets the 20GB and goes for one SKU (until they add colours!)?
From the press release:
20GB model to follow later in the year dependent on demand.
The 20GB has only been 20-25% of sales...After releasing 1 000 000 consoles in EU at 60GB it will bring that percentage to about 10% of sales...perhaps Sony will just decide the demand isn't there and forget the crippled system.
Go big or go home!
Breeny @ Jan 25th 2007 9:12AM
I'm not European, but I'm pretty shocked they don't have a soccer/football title for launch. I would think that the most poplular sport on the continent would sell more systems.
Joop @ Jan 25th 2007 10:15AM
Flow? Blast Factor?
So download games count as launch titles now?
Just curious if anyone in europeland can answer this, how much are normal bluray players going for over there? If they aren't equally price inflated, then $840 doesn't exactly seem cheap for a bluray player, anymore.
aDRIEN @ Jan 25th 2007 10:34AM
pretty nice launch selection...Motorstorm alone would have me in line if I didn't already have one here in the states.
boots @ Jan 25th 2007 11:08PM
Why is everyone so excited for Motorstorm? I've played the demo and it's boring. It feels like another motocross (or racing) game, the graphics aren't bad, but they aren't great as in "So much better than Xbox 1.5". Furthermore, the game would be greatly enhanced with the next-gen rumble features that immersion offered Sony (unlike Xbox 360's last gen rumble features). Don't get me wrong, I love PS3 and the latest BC update, but Motorstorm is just not on the top of my list. I'm waiting for Heavenly Sword, Lair and White Knight Story. I hope at least Lair and Heavenly sword come out before May.
Jihad:
"Jewrope"? I thought Europe got rid of the Jews *60 years ago*, to simply ending up letting in all the "Jihad" people, if you know what I mean. More like Al-Europe.

Player 599 Pounds
PS3 425 Pounds
Borat @ Jan 25th 2007 11:07PM
Joop:
Way to do your research. The PS3 + Blue-tooth remote = 450 pounds, which is the same as toshiba's HD-DVD player; except of course, PS3 blows any HD player (both formats) out of the water, as of now. Oh, did you notice it also plays the biggest library of games available for any platform?
