Unreal Tournament 2007 = Unreal Tournament 3... also multiplatform
So, what's this talk about Unreal Tournament 2007 going to the 360 and PC? That's completely untrue. Why? Because that's not going to be the game's title anymore -- even though the game is actually the fourth UT, it's going to be dubbed Unreal Tournament 3. Why would Epic Games instigate such a confusing name change? You have about ten seconds to make the connection or... well... we'll tell you.Still thinking? Well, here's a hint: replace "tournament" with "engine" and you'll find your answer staring you in the face. That's right, they're changing the name to coincide with their incredibly popular, even in Japan, engine dubbed the Unreal Engine 3. So, we can assume UT3 is going to be one of the "showcase" titles for the engine. Honestly, the engine doesn't need any more showcasing. We know it's great. Now, if you say Unreal Tournament 3 is going to be multiplatform, you're right. We'll all enjoy it, so is that a problem?

ndoerr @ Jan 26th 2007 12:07PM
@ Jeff -- that last part wasn't necessary, ass.

oh well guess theres allways and asshole near by like mr.#2 nvm...
i hope they program it based on the pc and then port it the console..
sean @ Jan 26th 2007 1:01PM
actually its not a port of a PC game. i was watchin a interview and they said that the computer version is more focused on the gun fights when the console versions are more focused on the vehicles. becuase vechiles are better on consoles and shooting is better on PC. or something like that

Hey. It's good news for everyone!
Now, give us three-way, cross-platform play and you will have a reason to bring PC, 360, and PS3 gamers together.
I rag on Sony gamers all the time, but I would love to have a game where we can all co-exist happily...or even have friendly console vs console vs pc fights.
Come on companies...it would be awfully big of you.

Jeff's a stupid fuck.
I think this shouldn't be the cause of too much consternation since we can all probably agree that the the /best/ way to play this game will be on a pricey alienware-style pc.
The console versions will be fun though.

I think the "best" way to play this game will be on my gaint-ass TV, with a beer, a bowl and a hot chick next to me trying to get into my pants. But, that's just me. As we've all heard for years, graphics aren't everything, it's all about the immersion :p

hey everybody, lets all welcome jeff to PS3FANBOY
John @ Jan 26th 2007 2:40PM
There is a new Havok engine (4.5) optimized for ps3, 5-10 times faster than previous release: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/25/new-havok-release-supports-ps3/
0Armada @ Jan 26th 2007 3:10PM
I think they called it Unreal Tournament 3 to overshadow UT2k3. That game failed in comparison to UT2k4.
Scott Krueger @ Jan 26th 2007 4:59PM
Jeff the 360Fanboy Writers and users are just as bad.
One Claimed the Wii and PS3 were louder than the 360, which is a Screaming Lie, My PS3 is whisper Quiet and my 360 is Very Loud. That is why my Movie Playing has moved over to my PS3, that and because the PS3 is supposed to output DVDs Clearer.
BTW, Unreal is the Same Engine that Runs Gears Of War that all the 360Fanboys said the PS3 could not Run.
Wii360dsPC @ Jan 27th 2007 9:43PM
The Unreal 3 Engine can scale down to run on the PS3 as it can on other platforms. Yes, the PS3 can't run Gears as it appears on the 360, because the PS3 only has 256MB of memory for textures. Well, it could, but it would look like crap. The 360's 512MB can be used as developers see fit. Conversely, PS3 developers are forced to have code live in 256MB and textures in a separate 256MB.
Given that it uses all 3 PowerPC cores, it would require a real slimming down to run on the Cell's single (one) PowerPC core. It wouldn't be pretty. Maybe it could be dramatically be rewritten to run on the SPUs. There seems to be some developer consensus that Sony's asymmetric core design blows.
Knowing the above, can anyone really be surprised that the multiplatform titles on the PS3 can't keep up with 360s framerates>

Cant wait for this gam3
samik @ Jan 28th 2007 7:58AM
Wii360dsPC, you are wrong., in fact BOTH 360 and PS3 will be dumbed down with poor graphics compared to the PC version (by 2008 even a medium range PC will have 1 GB RAM)
Wii360dsPC @ Jan 28th 2007 9:55AM
@samik
I made no mention of PC. On the PC side, we're all sporting >512MB VRAM and at least 2GB RAM -- those of us who like to game. I'm talking consoles. Heck, my PC has a higher-grade GPU than what's in the PS3.
As long as PC titles need to support older spec'd hardware, there will still be compromises in the PC engines. Call of Duty 2 looked better and played better on the 360 than my higher-spec'd PC hardware. Sure, that will change over time, but it will be at least another 2 years or so before we see titles "dumbed down" for the next-gen consoles.
