How much would you pay for an unpatched GTA?

With the 3.03 downgrade now available, many gamers will undoubtedly be on a frantic search for an unpatched GTA: Liberty City Stories. The copies that are available in stores are patched to prevent the downgrading exploit from working, meaning it may be nigh impossible to find a hack-compatible version.

One seller on eBay is attempting to capitalize on this demand and is selling his unpatched copy for a whopping $400. Surely, this must be a doomed auction? I hope so: you could buy yourself twenty copies of the game at that game. Chances are, you'll find an unpatched one eventually.

So, how about you, PSP Fanboy reader? Are you desperately searching for the exploitable GTA?

I spotted a used one in the store, but couldn't confirm the firmware version. After I got home, I confirmed from the pics on the box that it was the original release, but I'm still unsure whether or not I _want_ to downgrade. I play a few games, surf and watch videos. I'll get the GPS when it becomes available in Canada.

Other than that, I'm not sure why I would want to run homebrew. Any suggestions?

From what I've read, you can't definitively tell from the box if it is an unpatched copy. The only way to tell for sure is to pop it in your PSP and see if it has the 2.0 or 2.6 firmware. i want to downgrade for two reasons.

1) I can ISO my current game collection and not have to cart 20+ UMDs with me when I travel. I can just use my laptop and USB cable which will come with me anyways.

2) Emulators and PSOne games. I'm not dropping stupid amounts of cash on a PS3 just so I can download PSOne games to my PSP. In fact, nobody I know bothered with a PS3, they all bought the Wii with 4 remotes and nunchucks.

Oh and to answer the origional question, I'd pay new retail for a used copy. So if you want to confirm that the copy you saw is unpatched and buy it, you could make some money off of me. I'm also in Canada so shipping would be inexpensive.

I have an original LCS PSP.

$400 is a bit ridiculous.

I'd trade it for a Wii or DS Lite though...lol.

I don't pay even $1. Because I am happy with official firmwares of SONY. No need homebrew, since there is no useful staff in it for me. If I was a developer It would be interesting to use homebrew and program some staff; but as a user, legal and official firmwares are enough.

Well i never got a chance of downgrade
but now i have it
and luckily the gta i purchased from someone in amazon 3 months back is unpatched
good for me
now i can play ps1 isos without ps3 its good

I wouldn't pay THAT much. Everyone remember the softmod hacks for the XBox? Agent Under Fire, MechAssault, and one other game were crashable. MechAssault was the most popular, especially seeing as the hacked save files were the easiest to come by. Last I checked, unpatched MAs run $5. That's right, five United States dollars. Just give it a little bit, the market will calm. Besides, don't forget that the homebrew loaders for 2.60 also required LCS.

Why pay $400 just for one game when you could buy a brand new PSP and the retail version (upgraded) game and just use that to play? Anyone who pays $400 for that is a complete idiot and deserves to be parted with their money.

I'm with themediaMan. I'm too busy playing excellent games to even drop back to the OS. I did get Doom working on it once which was a novelty but that was about as exciting as it got. 'Backing up ISOs' is the only reason I'd be interested but I'm not a huge pirate! ;)

Oh, come on, rent it from GameFly, hope you get an unpatched copy! If not try and try again, I doubt they have the patched ones, since they bought mountains of it... I got mine that way, first rented it then bought it from them.... long time ago, but.... IM LOVING HOMEBREW!!!!

I bought mine as soon as they were released over here in England (FW 1.52)
So downgraded mine straight away, now at 3.03OE-C
Fantastic Coding, Well Done to All That were Involved,
Dark Alex / Booster / and of course Noobz for this Great Downgrader for everyone to enjoy the benefits of all Homebrew / Backups of which load alot quicker then the Stupid UMD's (;O)

Haha. It's funny because yesterday I saw six copies, all unpatched according to the pictures. But I bought Killzone instead because I can't legally play GTA. Oh well...

The biggest reason for the custom firmware, for me, is: PS1 games. Period.

If Sony was smart, they'd open up the PSP so that it could connect to the Sony store and allow users to purchase PS1 games. Now that I've gone custom, I won't turn back.

damn to much imma stick to $20 becouase the next town over where i live has toons of un-patched gta:lsc games in astock and I'm goin to pick up my copy this weekdend . so anybody outher in the MIDDLESEX AREA in NJ you ARE IN LUCK just go to perthamboy on smith st.. plus they sell faceplates any you want they might have

lols. they seem rare where all u guys are. down under here in australia, we got unpatched versions coming outta our eers! u got to eb games and u will guarentted find at leest one unpatched gta lcs,if not 20 (true!) for 25 bux preowned. dont kno wot the shortage up there is for:p

Everyone should have gotten it back when the original firmware downgrade was out. I snapped that thing up right quick.

Stuff like this (software that allows exploits), Atlus games and games by Treasure are all things you should get immediately if you've any intention of ever owning them.

I just picked up a copy for $49.99 after remembering that I ordered a copy of the game at my university book store last spring before I got called up to active duty with the Army. I went in today and they still had it sitting there for me (although I did have to pay for the original price of the game).

Worth it for a great game and some homebrew.

Well i had my PSP a long time ago but i don´t wanna tell that.I´ve recieved my PSP and when I saw: You need the v2.082 to play I upgraded my PSP to that version. But oune day i discovered dl.qj.net i was very without words (Gave 10 punches in my own face!) And now I really need to now 2 things:
*Can I downgrade without GTA LCS
*If i need it it must be UMD right?
*Please get me a way to downgrade without LCS :cry: :cry: I can give you the following prizes by getting that downgrader:
