Here's what people are renting -- how about you?
Dare we say it's a good news day? See, the saying is "no news is good news"... so... well, it's at least a slower news day than usual. In light of this, we checked out GameFly's rental/request charts (because this guy right here is still trying to decide if he wants to slam down the monthly payment to sign up) to see what's popular and who wasn't surprised to see two very high-profile 360 titles at the top of the charts? Anyway, the charts looked something like this:All platforms (also XBox 360)
- Lost Planet
- Crackdown
- Battlestations: Midway
Nintendo Wii
- Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
- Trauma Center: Second Opinion
- Mario Party 8
Playstation 3
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Call of Duty 3
- Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
Playstation 2
- Rogue Galaxy
- God of War 2
- Bully
There you have it. Remember, these are both requests and top rentals rolled into one -- that's why you see Mario Party 8 and God of War 2 on there. Now, it's obvious right now that the world loves the Wii, but... seriously... no more mini-game collections. And 360? Well... we suppose you deserve a pat on the back for topping the overall charts with your games. But it's a begrudging pat on the back, with thoughts of "if only we had a new game other than Sonic". Any of you guys out there rent these games lately? What did you think?

Sony does have original games coming out for its system, right?
Also its called Zelda, Elebits, Red Steel, Metal Slug and Excite Truck, smartass. Name 3 games for the PS3 that don't suck. Mini games on Wii sold more then the PS3 hardware.
ndoerr @ Jan 30th 2007 1:58PM
@ Kannon -- I'm not being a smartass. I'd have trouble simply naming 3 games for the PS3 (not really, but the uneducated consumer probably would... I know everything =P, kidding kidding). Also, I wouldn't count Metal Slug as that's a very old franchise (thus the anthology) and... if Excite Truck didn't have the motion-sensing, it wouldn't even be a very good game. Zelda is also on GameCube, which I've got. Not sure about Elebits or Red Steel, but I've read in many places that the latter suffers from the same conclusion I drew about Excite Truck.
And yeah, PS3 has a good bit of original IPs coming out -- just like with Nintendo and Zelda, the sequels come because people demand them. Because they're generally very, very good.
...Okay, now I'm being a smartass. I apologize.

I actually just got Blazing Angels in the mail from gamefly yesterday. So far it's good, but it's a little tricky in parts.
my future queue looks like this:
MotorStorm
God of War II
Lair
Assassin's Creed
Any recommendations for games out now?
ndoerr @ Jan 30th 2007 3:14PM
@ j -- Recommendations... hmm... I'd give Ridge Racer 7 a shot if you haven't already. Other than that, I can't see many games to try. Resistance is good, but FPS's aren't for everybody. Go ahead and rent Okami for PS2 if you haven't played that. It's a lot of fun. Hopefully that gives you a place to start looking, at least. Enjoy!

I thought I heard something about Sony making PS3 disc that can only be read by the first PS3 it was played by.
Ray @ Jan 30th 2007 6:44PM
I never rent games but I have been enjoying playing Marvel Alliance I recently picked up.
Greg @ Jan 30th 2007 6:53PM
@Saffie; absolute bunk. Probably read that before the console launched, when rumors were rampant, but there's no truth to that statement as far as I can tell. In all honesty, i've ONLY played rented games so far.
As for whether or not to get Gamefly, I say go for it. Had it since probably christmas of 2004, and it's been great. It's a lot cheaper than buying all the games (especially short ones and minigame collections), and rental fees don't stack up.
What i'm playing right now: Resistance and re-playing Soul Calibur III.

Saffie:
That was pure speculation based on patents filed by Sony a while back. Not true.
Thanks for the suggestion Nick, I was thinking about getting that game but I wasn't sure, I'll give it a try.
Wes @ Jan 30th 2007 9:00PM
I'll probably be renting Sonic when I finish and sell off the (imported) Motorstorm I just got. Shame it doesn't have multiplayer, split screen or even another race mode to choose from (see: bare bones), but it is still one hell of a fun game, and look forward to making a killing online as I'll know all the tracks :)
miiiguel @ Jan 31st 2007 12:28PM
damn PS3 launch titles doesn't exist... at all!!!!
I have a few pearls on PS3 fundamentalists regarding 360 launch titles. It's so funny to read them now...

Personally, I love Gamefly. My monthly membership fee has saved me HUNDREDS of dollars over the past 5 months. I used to buy every new game that came out, and I'd end up trading at least half of them in after a week for less than half the purchase price at EB or Gamestop (now, one and the same).
But now, I just rent games. The only game I plan to buy this month is Crackdown, just because I've had SOOO much fun with the demo and I'll get the Halo3 beta to boot.
Right now my Queue includes Battlestations Midway and Motorstorm.
I currently have Ridge Racer7 (better than expected but no where near as graphically impressive as PGR3) and Rainbow 6 Vegas (nice gameplay, but horrible textures) out. Need for Speed Carbon is on its way to me as we speak.
