Use regular AAA batteries in this impressive mod

The incredible folks at Acidmods have done it again: they've come up with another ingenious modification that's bound to be helpful for some of you. By carefully opening up a spare PSP battery pack, and then going through a complicated series of technical voodoo, you'll be able to use three standard AAA batteries to power your PSP. Certainly, this will come in handy for those of you that can't seem to find a charger to plug your PSP into while traveling.
While certainly a useful mod, it may prove to be too difficult for most. Maybe a third party will start manufacturing some of these babies for us?

PSP Go Max. Less than $20 and works very well. Impressive mod, but one that is available commercially. If only somebody would begin to manufacture such a thing...

They've been making them for some time now......

Yeah, but it's not very good. You can't use rechargable batteries with the one that you listed on Futureshop.

Not sure what symphony1125 is talking about. I use mine almost exclusively with NiMH rechargeable batteries. It works great. What are you basing your statement on, symphony1125?

Maybe I'm stupid, but why would you buy a AAA battery pack, and fill it with rechargeable batteries? Can't you just carry around another PSP battery pack? One less charger, too.

You can get some of those at Ebay

@Dave
Rechargeable AAAs cost less. I can use them in my GPS device as well as my emergency charger for my smartphone. If the rechargeable AAAs run out, I can buy disposables. I can buy rechargeable AAAs for a fraction of the cost of a Sony proprietary battery that only works with the PSP. Plus, I can charge 9 AAAs at once, whereas I can only charge one PSP battery at a time. I could go on, but you see my point. You may not agree, but surely you see my point.

is it really worthwhile? i mean i can think of things where hell yes it would be great to have it, yet it only has a charge of 2-4 hours. most likely this is a stupid question, cause thats 3 batteries. do you carry a whole bunch of batteries with you?
tony @ Feb 7th 2007 10:48AM
I've had the gomax battery for awhile and the direction says that you cant use rechargeable batteries because of the voltage of the psp but I still tried it and it worked great on my ta-082 psp with some rechargeable 1.2 V energizers but it would shut off after a few minutes of play time with regular non-rechargeable 1.5 V duracell batteries and when I tried it with a non-ta-082 psp the reverse effect occurred, oh and with the energizer 15 minute charger it saves a lot of time if my psp battery dies because of the 2 hour charge time with the normal psp battery so I think its deffiently worth it but I did get the gomax on sale for $9.99
